Millimeter Wave Radar helps detect obstacles on road ahead.
September 16, 2008 -
Designed for installation in vehicles, Millimeter-Wave Radar is used in pre-crash safety systems that identify imminent collision to minimize crash damage, and in adaptive cruise control systems that maintain vehicle distance. It integrates transmitting and receiving antenna and waveguide tube. Unit features high-performance signal processing technology to reduce number of receiving channels in antenna.

DENSO Develops Smaller and Less-Expensive Millimeter-Wave Radar
KARIYA (Japan) - DENSO Corporation announced today that it has developed a new millimeter-wave radar that is nearly half the volume and significantly less-expensive than the previous model.
DENSO millimeter-wave radar technology, which can detect obstacles on the road ahead, is used in pre-crash safety systems that identify an imminent collision to minimize crash damage and in adaptive cruise control systems that maintain vehicle distance. The new millimeter-wave radar will be installed in vehicles sold in Japan and other countries worldwide beginning this month.
DENSO used two solutions to help reduce the size and cost of the new millimeter-wave radar. One solution was to integrate the transmitting and receiving antenna and the waveguide tube, which connects the antenna and transmitting and receiving device. The second solution used a high-performance signal processing technology to reduce the number of receiving channels in the antenna, which helped reduce the size of the antenna and the transmitting and receiving device.
"DENSO will continue to develop new technologies and products for vehicles that will further contribute to safety," said Mitsuharu Kato, senior managing director in charge of DENSO Corporation's Electric Systems and Information & Safety Systems business groups.
