DAQ Board facilitates 16-bit data conversion.


September 2, 2008 - Providing 16 differential isolated analog inputs and 2 isolated analog outputs, Model MSXB 085 isolated analog expansion and termination board can sample signal inputs at 333 k samples/sec and can update both signal outputs at 500 k updates/sec. It fits into backplane in standard industrial enclosure or directly into DAPserver to form networked, isolated instrument. Up to 8 boards can be supported by single DAP board, controlled from PC or network-ready DAPserver.

Isolated Analog Inputs and Outputs Onboard 16-Bit Data Conversion Each Way


Bellevue, WA, August 14, 2008 - Signal isolation protects signals from noise, and isolated signal grounds protect against both ground loops and noise. If your application requires this level of protection and you need a number of analog inputs and a smaller number of analog outputs, take a look at a board that has just come on the market. Microstar Laboratories, maker of Data Acquisition Processor (DAP) boards and network-ready DAPservers, today announced the MSXB 085 isolated analog expansion and termination board. Each board provides sixteen isolated analog inputs and two isolated analog outputs, and all inputs are differential, with 16-bit data conversion on the board itself - to minimize exposure to noise elsewhere in the system.

The board can sample signal inputs at 333k samples per second and can update both signal outputs at 500k updates per second. A single DAP board can support up to eight MSXB 085 boards.

Channel Architecture

MSXB 085 boards fit into a backplane in a standard industrial enclosure like other signal-conditioning products that conform to the external hardware specifications of the Microstar Laboratories channel architecture: signal connectors on 3U (100mm high) Eurocard B (220mm deep) boards - Eurocards - that often pre-process a signal. Signals connect to a DB37 male connector or to Wago connectors. A backplane connector on each board connects it to a digital backplane factory-fitted into the industrial enclosure. An interface board that also plugs into the backplane sends digitized waveforms to a DAP board controlled from a PC or DAPserver. MSXB 085 boards also fit directly into a DAPserver to form a networked, isolated instrument. Add MSXB 078 boards for isolated digital inputs and outputs, if your application requires these as well as the isolated analog inputs and outputs included with MSXB 085 boards. Add MSXB 076 boards if your application requires additional isolated analog outputs.

DAP Boards and DAPservers

DAP boards make a robust platform for high-performance data acquisition and control systems. PCs and rack-mountable DAPserver system packages each can contain - and control - more than one DAP board. Every DAP board includes an onboard processor running a real-time operating system. Windows applications that support DLL calls can control a DAP board by communicating with this onboard operating system. You can control a DAP board from DAPstudio - a Windows application from Microstar Laboratories - as well as from third-party (or your own) software, and you can do this from any PC on a network. For smaller systems, you can hook up a single DAPserver to any PC with an Ethernet connection. Or attach a keyboard and screen to the DAPserver and control it directly - using software preloaded at the factory.
