Greenlee's New Cable Stripping Tool with Triple Action Stripping Hooks the Competition

Rotary, linear and spiral "window" stripping accomplished by combining
two rotary cuts with a spiral cut

ROCKFORD, Ill. August, 2008 -Greenlee, a Textron Company (NYSE: TXT) has launched a new 1903 cable stripping tool that offers the latest advancements in rotary cable stripping. The 1903, with its triple action stripping of rotary, longitudinal and spiral cutting abilities, has four new features to make the end-user's job faster, safer and easier.

The 1903 was designed with a hook on the end of the cable guide, which is used to grab the jacket and start pulling it from the cable. There are interchangeable small and large cable guides to allow the 1903 to strip cable over the full range from 0.18" to 1.57" diameter (8 AWG to 1250 kcmil). A pocket at the base of the tool is used to store replacement blades, and a new ergonomic shape allows the 1903 to fit better in the end-user's hand. The 1903 is also lightweight and compact so it fits easily into pockets or tool pouches.

"There are a lot of similar tools available in the marketplace, but none that have the special hook on the cable guide to more easily start jacket removal," said Jim Eisele, senior product manager. "Also, most of the competitive tools do not have interchangeable guides or a storage pocket for replacement blades."

Using the 1903 to strip a cable jacket is simple. First, select the correct cable guide for the size of cable you need to strip. Then, set the blade depth using the knurled knob. Make sure the depth is deep enough to cut the jacket, but not quite deep enough to score the cable. Then put the tool onto the cable and turn it around three or four times to ring the cable. Now turn the tool body and blade to either make a spiral or longitudinal cut to the cable end. When this is done, use the hook at the end of the cable guide to begin peeling off the jacket. Once the jacket removal is started, the end-user can peel it the rest of the way by hand.
