Fastrax Unveils New Track &Trace Platform for Faster Development of Asset Tracking Applications and Location Based Services

The Integrated Hardware and Software Platform Provides a Cost-Effective and Powerful Toolset for Telematics Applications

Helsinki, Finland - August 26, 2008 - Fastrax, a provider of programmable GPS receivers and software solutions for original equipment manufacturers, today announced the launch of the Fastrax Track&Trace platform, integrating all software and hardware components needed for fast and cost-efficient development of tracking applications.

The new Fastrax Track&Trace Platform is designed for telematics device manufacturers and asset tracking service providers. It is suited for both professional fleet management applications and a wide range of GPS-enabled consumer devices and services. Fastrax Track&Trace Platform provides an ideal basis for development of applications to track and trace for example cars, trucks, trailers, motorbikes, boats and rental equipment. With tightening competition, faster time to market and cost effective hardware designs are increasingly important.

The integrated Fastrax Track&Trace Platform can be used either as off-the-shelf product, be customized for specific application requirements or integrated into existing solutions. The multi-purpose platform enables easy and flexible customization of both hardware and software to meet the particular requirements of various professional and commercial tracking applications. Using the same platform in different products brings volume benefits and further increases the efficiency of application development.

"Our aim is to help application device manufacturers and service providers hit the mass market sooner and with lower R&D and production costs", said Mr. Taneli Tuurnala, President and CEO, Fastrax. "The new platform brings maximum versatility and performance with minimal time and cost. With innovative hardware design and large volumes, the cost of the platform is drastically less when compared to most similar solutions. In addition, the platform comes with our advanced power management capabilities, which enable long battery life and low stand-by power consumption, key benefits in track and trace devices".

Fastrax Track&Trace Hardware is based on the uTrace03 telematics module, which consists of a GPS receiver with an integrated antenna, a GSM/GPRS modem with an integrated quad band antenna, and connectors for easy implementation. The Track&Trace platform includes the pre-certified (CE, FCC, PTCRB) uTrace03 Evaluation Kit, which is a complete battery powered tracking device and offers the fastest route to end product through re-branding.

The hardware platform also includes the uTrace03 Development Board, which allows immediate development and evaluation of extended customized hardware and software applications without having to wait for the prototypes. The platform's uTrace03 Automotive Interface board provides a robust power supply unit, optional automotive bus connections, sensors, and a flash memory bank for example for over-the-air downloads and extended data logging.

With Fastrax Track&Trace Software common tracking functionality is embedded in the hardware. The default software includes functions like GPS navigation, database for points of interest coupled to route adherence and 4D-geofencing capabilities as well as embedded file system for storing navigation and event logs. The software also handles GSM/GPRS communication, log export, an interface to Fastrax Track&Trace Server for real-time tracking, and power save schemes for different power starved environments. The web-based Fastrax Track&Trace Server, a demonstration service for tracking assets, is offered free of charge to facilitate testing in real application environment.

Fastrax Track&Trace Embedded Software toolkit is a powerful software development environment for building embedded tracking applications and for modifying existing software features. A significant part of the environment comes as source code, which allows tailoring and optimization of the final application.

More information: www.fastraxgps.com.

Global Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwide satellite navigation infrastructure funded and controlled by the U.S. Department of Defense, originally developed for U.S. military purposes. GPS provides satellite signals that enable GPS receivers to calculate their exact position, velocity and time. The GPS infrastructure has three segments. The space segment consists of 24 satellites that orbit the earth every 12 hours. The control segment consists of tracking stations located around the world, with the master control station located at Falcon Air Force Base in Colorado. The user segment consists of GPS receivers and users utilizing the information provided by the system. GPS is widely used in applications such as marine and automotive navigation.
