Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0) DPDT Switches Provide ±15kV ESD Protection in Tiny UTQFN Package

DPDT Analog Switches for Multiplexing Hi-Speed USB Signals

o The MAX4983E/MAX4984E are double-pole/double-throw (DPDT) analog switches for multiplexing Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0) signals at 480Mbps.

o These switches save board space, while providing ±15kV ESD protection, low on-capacitance, and low on-resistance for high-performance switching applications.

o To save space, these devices integrate all of these features in a 1.4mm x 1.8mm UTQFN package.

o The MAX4983E/MAX4984E are ideal for portable applications that require high-speed switching.

SUNNYVALE, CA - May 15, 2008 - Maxim Integrated Products (PINK OTC MARKETS: MXIM) introduces the MAX4983E/MAX4984E double-pole/double-throw (DPDT) analog switches for multiplexing Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0) signals at 480Mbps. To enable the use of a single connector in high-performance switching applications, these switches feature low on-resistance (5W, typ) and high 950MHz bandwidth. They also provide ±15kV ESD protection (Human Body Model) to enhance robustness without latchup or damage. Fully specified to operate from a single, 2.8V to 5.5V supply voltage, these devices are protected against 5.5V shorts to COM1 and COM2. The MAX4983E/MAX4984E meet all requirements for low-speed and full-speed USB, and they are fully compliant with the USB 2.0 specification of VBUS fault protection, making them ideal for portable applications that require high-speed switching.

The MAX4983E/MAX4984E also feature low-threshold-voltage logic outputs and a shutdown mode that reduces the quiescent supply current to 0.1µA. Operating over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range, the MAX4983E/MAX4984E are available in 2mm x 2mm, 10-pin µDFN and tiny, 1.4mm x 1.8mm, 10-pin UTQFN packages. Prices start at $1.50 (1000-up, FOB USA).
