Optical Cables are flame-retardant.

July 17, 2008 - Test verified to meet specific mechanical and environmental conditions of many industrial applications, LSZH(TM) Industrial Cables contain compound that does not drip when superheated. Low-smoke/zero-halogen cables come in various designs including interlocking armored cable, riser-rated corrugated armored cable, double-jacketed cold-temperature cable, and single-jacket cable. They are tray-rated per UL1277, UL13, UL444, and CSA C22.2 No. 230 and No. 232 standards for industrial applications.

Corning Cable Systems Introduces Suite of Cables for Industrial Applications

Includes industry's most extensive offering of tray-rated, low-smoke/zero-halogen optical cables

HICKORY, N.C. - Corning Cable Systems LLC, part of Corning Incorporated's (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, introduces its suite of industrial optical cables, including the industry's most extensive offering of tray-rated, low-smoke/zero-halogen optical cables. Corning's LSZH(TM) Industrial Cables are flame-retardant and test verified to meet the specific mechanical and environmental conditions of many industrial applications.

Corning Cable Systems' LSZH industrial cables provide safety benefits for industrial applications through the cables' construction. Many traditional data communication cables contain halogens in the jacket compound, which pose little risk in the controlled and protected environment of typical building air spaces, such as behind walls, under floors and in conduit. However, cables deployed in industrial applications, particularly on the plant floor, may be exposed to greater risk of fire, extreme temperatures or chemical exposure. This often makes halogen cables inappropriate for industrial environments.

When cables containing halogens ignite, they emit reactive gases that can be harmful if inhaled. When halogens combine with water, acids are formed. These acids damage both living tissue and inorganic materials, such as metal and electronic equipment. Corning Cable Systems' LSZH Industrial Cables greatly reduce these risks in the event of a fire in the industrial environment. In addition, the LSZH compound does not drip when superheated; the material burns to ash, virtually eliminating the onset of secondary fires.

LSZH industrial cables are all cable tray-rated per UL1277, UL13, UL444 and CSA C22.2 No. 230 and No. 232, a preferred tray-rating standard for industrial applications. Corning Cable Systems' LSZH industrial cables are available in a variety of designs suited to many industrial environments, including the interlocking armored cable; the riser-rated, corrugated armored cable; the double-jacketed, cold-temperature cable and the single-jacket cable.

In addition, the LANscape® Industrial Cables suite offers two specialty cables for industrial applications, including a Mining and Petrochemical Cable and LANscape Tactical Cable. The Mining and Petrochemical Cable is a tray-rated LSZH cable suitable for outdoor or indoor environments, while the highly flexible Tactical Cable uses a polyurethane jacket for additional abrasion resistance and excellent performance in cold temperatures.
