Epoxy-Based Shed Material suits composite insulators.

July 9, 2008 - Semi-flexible, cycloaliphatic epoxy material AralditeŽ S-HCEP is designed for producing sheds on reinforced fiber-core composite insulators used in medium- to high-voltage outdoor power applications. It exhibits intrinsic hydrophobicity, hydrophobicity transfer, and recovery. Requiring no stirring, degassing, or pre-heating, erosion resistant epoxy has 1:1 mix ratio by volume, permitting meter-mixing on same type of equipment used for liquid silicone rubber.

AralditeŽ S-HCEP System Provides Cost-Effective Solution for Outdoor Electrical Insulation

New hydrophobic epoxy-based shed material for composite insulators

THE WOODLANDS, Tex., July 1, 2008 - A semi-flexible, cycloaliphatic epoxy for producing sheds on reinforced fiber-core composite insulators used in medium- to high-voltage outdoor power applications is now available from Huntsman Advanced Materials. Known as AralditeŽ S-HCEP (Shed Hydrophobic Cycloaliphatic Epoxy) material, the new product exhibits intrinsic hydrophobicity, hydrophobicity transfer and recovery. It is designed to absorb the stresses that occur in composite insulators to increase durability. It is also formulated to provide good tracking and erosion resistance as well as good water diffusion breakdown strength.

In addition to outstanding performance, the cost-effective new product is easy to handle to reduce processing costs. The system has a convenient 1:1 mix ratio by volume, permitting meter-mixing on the same type of equipment used for liquid silicone rubber. The AralditeŽ S-HCEP system requires no stirring, degassing or pre-heating. In addition, the epoxy adheres well to composite rods without necessitating primer pre-treatment.

AralditeŽ S-HCEP material was developed after the market success of Huntsman's AralditeŽ HCEP (Hydrophobic Cycloaliphatic Epoxy) material in producing monolithic outdoor insulators. A rigid product, AralditeŽ HCEP material combines advantages of traditional epoxies with good hydrophobic properties.
