Optimal IdM Releases the Next Generation of Its Virtual Directory
Reducing Large Active Directory Group Population Processing Times From Hours to Seconds
TAMPA, Fla., June 30 -- Optimal IdM LLC, a Microsoft partner and a leading global provider of identity management consulting and software solutions, today announced the next generation of its .NET virtual directory, the Virtual Identity Server for Enterprise Group Management(TM). It is a product that builds on the robust functionality offered in the Virtual Identity Server and is designed to enhance Active Directory (AD) group membership management as a standalone Windows service or as a management agent (MA) that works with Microsoft's Identity Lifecycle Manager (ILM) / (MIIS). The release of the Virtual Identity Server for Enterprise Group Management provides organizations with a codeless, automated solution to AD group management. It also enables organizations to significantly reduce complexity and deployment costs, while meeting compliance regulations.
Using the Virtual Identity Server for Enterprise Group Management as a standalone service or with ILM, users are placed into and out of AD security groups based on business rules and user attributes. Prior to the launch of the Virtual Identity Server for Enterprise Group Management, organizations using ILM to manage group membership in AD were required to bring all applicable groups into the metaverse. Now, using Optimal IdM's Virtual Identity Server for Enterprise Group Management organizations can manage group membership in AD efficiently, without projecting groups into the metaverse and without any custom code.
The Virtual Identity Server for Enterprise Group Management provides value throughout the entire life cycle of a user's identity. As attributes of a user change over time, the user is dynamically and automatically removed or added from static AD groups. This provides an automated and flexible mechanism to managing group membership in near real-time; aiding in a company's compliance efforts.
John Maring, Managing Partner of Optimal IdM adds, "Nine times out of ten, organizations do not need to provision or de-provision AD groups themselves. Instead, these static security groups already exist in the environment and organizations only need to add or remove users from these groups. Often, what used to take a great deal of consulting time and custom code, can now be accomplished without custom code and in a short amount of time using the Virtual Identity Server for Enterprise Group Management."
The Optimal IdM solution further enhances the capabilities of ILM by making the user attribute "memberOf" read and write capable within ILM. This, in turn, extends ILM by allowing normal custom import and export rules to take advantage of this attribute and functionality to affect or change AD group memberships, without the need to import or discover the group objects themselves.
"In one customer simulation, we were able to reduce the processing times of membership changes on a large (50,000 member) Active Directory group from over 2 hours to less than 60 seconds. This release provides the ability to process Active Directory group membership changes in near real-time, verses a once daily run, as many customers are doing today," stated Nada Dickerson, Chief Software Architect of Optimal IdM.
The Virtual Identity Server for Enterprise Group Management supports full imports, delta imports, and export run profiles within Microsoft's MIIS and ILM products. The product is also available as a standalone Windows service. Technical specifications can be found on our website at: http://www.optimalidm.com/egm .
