Vortex Shedding Flowmeters feature 316 SS construction.
July 7, 2008 -
Providing ±2% full-scale accuracy and ±.25% repeatability of indicated flow, CoolPoint(TM) flowmeters offer corrosion resistance in processing cooling water, water/glycol coolant, or low-viscosity fluids. Vortex shedding electronic flowmeters are available in ¾, 1, 1½, and 2 in. pipe sizes with maximum 4-20 mA transmitter flow rates of 25, 50, 100, and 200 gpm, respectively. Units feature PVDF sensors, Viton® fluoroelastomer seals, and flow totalizer.

Universal Flow Monitors, Inc. introduces four new sizes of stainless steel CoolPoint(TM) vortex shedding flowmeters for corrosion resistance in processing cooling water, water/glycol coolant or low-viscosity fluids.
CoolPoint(TM) flowmeters of 316 SS construction are now offered in ¾ inch, 1 inch, 1 ½ inch and 2 inch pipe sizes for measuring and monitoring higher flows of corrosive fluids and water with chemicals added. The vortex shedding flowmeters with 316 SS bodies also continue to be available in ¼ inch and ½ inch pipe sizes.
Stainless steel CoolPoint(TM) flowmeters provide flow consistency as a result of their ±2 percent full-scale accuracy and high repeatability (±.25 percent of indicated flow). They are electronic meters that have no moving parts to stick or coat, eliminating potential for clogging.
Maximum 4-20 mA transmitter flow rates for the new stainless steel CoolPoint(TM) pipe sizes are: ¾ inch, 25 gallons per minute (95 liters per minute); 1 inch, 50 GPM (190 LPM); 1 ½ inch, 100 GPM (380 LPM); and 2 inch, 200 GPM (750 LPM).
All four of the new, larger sized CoolPoint(TM) 316 SS flowmeters can be equipped with a temperature transmitter for flow applications involving heat removal. In addition to measuring flow rate, meters with the transmitter have the added capability of monitoring temperature readings and transmitting them to a process controller.
CoolPoint(TM) stainless steel flowmeters feature polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) sensors and Viton® fluoroelastomer seals as standard equipment. Meters with the 316 SS bodies can be equipped with Kalrez® perfluoroelastomer seals for added reliability in harsh chemical environments.
A flow totalizer is available on the new CoolPoint(TM) stainless steel units to increase their ability to measure, monitor and control the total amount of water used in a process. The optional flow totalizer features a pulse output, reset button and six-digit LED in either liters or gallons.
Flow turndown of 20:1 is also an option on the ¾ inch through 2 inch pipe sizes, up from 10:1 turndown as standard. The increased turndown ratio improves user capability to detect, read and record low flows, an advantage in batching and in standardizing on a single flowmeter model for multiple applications.
