Static-Analysis Tool Support for Mac OS X Now Available from GrammaTech
CodeSonar digs deeper and identifies serious bugs that other tools miss
ITHACA, NY - June 25, 2008 - GrammaTech, Inc., a leading provider of source-code analysis tools, today announced that CodeSonar 3.1 Enterprise now supports both the desktop and server versions of Mac OS X.
"CodeSonar was originally targeted at safety-critical software, which seldom uses Mac OS X. As GrammaTech's customer base grew broader, more companies expressed interest in CodeSonar for Mac OS X. For example, a major wireless device manufacturer requested it. The manufacturer had been using a competitor's static-analysis tool on Mac OS X, but that tool was not reporting the most critical defects. Experienced with CodeSonar for Linux and Windows platforms, the manufacturer knew that CodeSonar digs deeper and identifies the serious bugs that other tools miss. CodeSonar is a sophisticated static-analysis tool that performs a whole-program, interprocedural analysis on code and identifies complex programming bugs that can result in system crashes, memory corruption and other serious problems. CodeSonar has long been the software-analysis tool of choice for companies working on mission-critical applications like satellites, avionics, industrial controls and medical devices. Increasingly, companies outside the safety-critical space that are looking to significantly improve software reliability and security are adopting CodeSonar. This includes organizations developing software for wireless devices, networking equipment and consumer electronics.
Mac OS X, the current version of Apple Inc.'s primary operating system, is pre-loaded on Macintosh laptops, desktops and servers.
