Miniature Crash Sensor for Auto Safety Applications

June 24, 2008, Aliso Viejo, CA - Measurement Specialties has introduced the new miniature Model 52M30 accelerometer for auto safety applications. It offers significant cost savings, ease of use and measurement reliability for test professionals.

This low profile sensor was specifically designed for use in space-restricted environments where mounting options are limited and sensor cable access problematic, this new sensor also includes a polyurethane jacketed cable with shield.

The Model 52M30 is adhesively secured to the test surface. The flexible, 4- conductor cable easily winds through channels and obstructions to instrumentation and power supplies. The low cost of the Model 52M30, compared with existing sensing alternatives in the industry, makes it the unit of choice for crash tests where the sensor is at most risk of being damaged and must be regarded as disposable.

Operating from 2 to 10 Vdc, the Model 52M30 is available in ranges from 50 to 2000 g.

Depending on range, frequency response is from 400 to 7,000 Hz and resonant frequency is from 4,000 to 26,000 Hz. This 4-arm Wheatstone bridge device is less than 0.4 inches in length and 0.13 inches in height. It offers an operating temperature range of -40° to 121°C and linearity of ± 1%.

The underlying MEMS technology and innovative design of the Model 52M30 stems from MSI's research and vibration design facilities in Fremont and Aliso Viejo, California.
