Firewall provides geo-location based filtering.

July 2, 2008 - Supporting geo-based reputation filtering, Secure Firewall Geo-Location allows organizations to create policies that block connections by IP address based on country code information. It prevents employee access to malware-infected Web sites hosted in Geo-Location-blocked countries and reduces organizational threat exposure, traffic volume, as well as bandwidth requirements on public-facing Web, application, and remote access servers, which do not have to process unwanted connections.

Secure Computing Unveils New Secure Firewall Geo-Location Service

First and only firewall to provide geo-location based filtering reduces exposure to attack and boosts network scalability

June 22, 2008

Secure Computing Corporation (NASDAQ: SCUR), a leading enterprise gateway security company, has launched Secure Firewall (formerly known as SidewinderŪ) Geo-Location, a new service that allows organizations to create policies that block connections by an Internet Protocol address based on country code information, and is the first and only firewall feature that supports geo-based reputation filtering.

Secure Computing's Secure Firewall is the only firewall to provide organizations with the ability to reduce their exposure to attack by essentially shrinking the size of the Internet. Geo-Location achieves this by blocking or allowing the organization to apply additional in-depth application filtering on all Internet traffic from countries that they do not do business with, or that are known originators of malicious hacking.

"Secure Firewall's ability to filter connections based on the country code of an IP address enables our clients to significantly reduce virus and malware threats from high risk areas they would normally not be doing business with. We have several clients and prospects that see this as a tremendous new way to enhance their network security and reduce the load on their perimeter defense controls," said Preston Hogue, Chief Security Officer, Network Computing Architects Inc.

Among the key benefits of implementing Secure Firewall Geo-Location at the network perimeter are reduction of organizational threat exposure through a combination of IP address reputation and country code, achieved in conjunction with Secure Computing's TrustedSource(TM) reputation-based filtering; prevention of employee access to malware-infected Web sites hosted in Geo-Location- blocked countries; and reduction of traffic volume and, consequently, bandwidth requirements on public-facing Web, application and remote access servers, which do not have to process unwanted connections from countries which the organization has disallowed.

Secure Computing's Secure Firewall is setting a new standard for proactive threat detection by integrating the industry's leading reputation system, TrustedSource and the new Geo-Location technology into every firewall. The combination of TrustedSource reputation-based policy and Geo-Location country policy can be used with existing firewall policies such as anti-virus, IPS signatures, and application-layer filtering to further reduce the company's exposure and prevent attacks.

"Threat and traffic reduction are becoming extremely significant in the Middle East, which has emerged as one of the world's most rapidly-evolving Internet regions. The additional capabilities provided by Secure Firewall Geo-Location greatly expand the effectiveness of network security devices and support the growing trend towards Extensible Threat Management," concluded Nimer Ghazal, Regional Sales Manager - Middle East, Secure Computing.
