VCSEL Driver is optimized for low power dissipation.

June 25, 2008 - Model HXT4104 is 4-channel 10.3 Gbps Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) driver that can drive 10 mA average and 8 mA modulation current, and dissipates 91 mW of power per channel. Parallel VCSEL driver is digitally programmable via industry standard 2-wire interface, enabling control of signal peaking, modulation, and average current, in addition to providing access to temperature and output power monitoring on channel by channel basis.

GigOptix Announces Industry's Lowest Power 4x10.3 Gb/s Parallel VCSEL Driver

Mar 20, 2008

GigOptix, the leading provider in high-precision drivers for optical networks, today announced that the HXT4104, a 4 channel 10.3Gb/s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) driver, is available for sampling.

The HXT4104 is optimized for low power dissipation. Driving a 10mA average and 8mA modulation current, the HXT4104 dissipates an industry low of 91mW per channel and it can be further optimized via metal mask customizations to lower the power dissipation further on customer request.

The parallel VCSEL driver will enable a new generation of low cost active cable products for High Performance Computing (HPC), Very Short Reach (VSR) communication and consumer applications and is designed to be compatible with the Quad Small form Factor Pluggable (QSFP) Multi-Source Agreement (MSA.)

The HXT4104 simplifies system design by being digitally programmable via an industry standard 2-wire interface. This enables control of signal peaking, modulation and average current in addition to providing access to temperature and output power monitoring on a channel by channel basis.

Samples of the HXT4104 are available along with an evaluation board for easy evaluation with VCSEL. Production quantities are expected for shipment in Q4 2008.
