Cat5 is arguably one of the most inexpensive cables to pull and can be terminated on site with ease. Atlona Technologies has introduced several new all plates that use these cables to extend analog audio and video signals up 300 meters, and do not require a power source. The wall plates are available in Component, component with Digital Audio (S/PDIF), Composite with Analog Audio, Analog Audio, and VGA, and all use a single CAT-5 cable. These wall plates can save hundreds of dollars on any A/V installation using any of these analog connections, with only a single CAT-5 cable versus expensive long runs of analog video and analog audio cables.
