MAG Cincinnati Exhibits New VMC Line at IMTS

IMTS Advance News for MAG Industrial Automation Systems, Booth No. A-8218

New MAG Cincinnati VMC line ideal for heavy, high-accuracy cuts, with traveling X-axis spindle and fully supported Y-axis table

Cast-iron construction and wide range of spindle sizes and torque allow optimum configuration for variety of materials and production volumes in job shops, die/mold and aerospace. "Inside the box" design ships in a container, yet still offers X-axis up to 1300 mm (51.2 in)

Hebron, KY, May 2008 - MAG Cincinnati will introduce a new line of high-performance traveling X-Axis VMC's at IMTS, featuring spindle choices of 6,000 to 20,000 rpm, plus high torque of up to 614 Nm (453 lb-ft). Engineered with X-axis travel in the spindle and a fully supported table in the Y-axis, the new MAG VMC line is a stout, all-around design capable of producing excellent finishes and contours with outstanding accuracy in production or one-off work in materials from aluminum to titanium. This compact heavyweight features a vibration-damping cast-iron platform that is cleverly engineered with electrical cabinet inside the column structure. This unique feature, which has a patent pending allows the machine to fit in a shipping container for enhanced protection and reduced delivery cost. With maximum X-Y-Z travels of 1300 mm (51.2 in), 750 mm (29.5 in), and 700 mm (27.6 in), the versatile VMC's handle parts up to 1750 kg (3,870 lb) in aerospace, die-mold, job-shop, and high-production operations.

MAG Cincinnati's VMC line includes four models combining a Z-axis of 700 mm with X-axis of 900 or 1300 mm and Y-axis of 600 mm or 750 mm. Spindle choices include 22 kW, 40 taper belt-driven (10,000 rpm); 37 kW, 50 taper belt-driven (6,000 rpm); or 28 kW, HSK63A motorized (20,000 rpm). Tool changer capacity for the 40-taper and HSK spindles is 30 pockets; 24 pockets for the 50 taper spindle. Fast dual-arm tool changers maximize in-cut time with tool-to-tool time of just 2.5 sec.

Built with Schneeberger linear guides and low-friction Steinmeyer ETA+ ballscrews, the machine is capable of 6 m/sec² (0.6 g) acceleration, feed rate of 20 m/min (800 ipm) and rapid traverse of 45 m/min (1,770 ipm). A variety of coolant delivery and chip conveying arrangements allows the machine to be configured for materials ranging from titanium to aluminum, or to meet floor space requirements.

The standard control is a premium Fanuc 31i. In the future, the VMC line will be available with MAG's own Infimatic NC200 control. Multiple integrated 5-axis configurations and pallet changer versions will be offered.

The new MAG Cincinnati VMC line will be built and supported at the company's manufacturing center of excellence in Hebron, Kentucky.
