Timing-Card IC supports SONET/SDH and/or Synch-E Ports.

May 19, 2008 - Built on DSP-based, digital PLL technology, Model DS3102 offers carrier-class, Stratum 3 clock synchronization for G.8262-compliant synchronous Ethernet (Sync-E) equipment. It can lock to any multiple of 2 kHz up to 131.072 MHz and any multiple of 4 kHz up to 155.52 MHz, and can generate any multiple of 2 kHz up to 77.76 MHz, any multiple of 8 kHz up to 311.04 MHz, and any multiple of 10 kHz up to 388.79 MHz. Unit is designed for central clock-synchronization function in telecom systems.

Stratum 3 Timing-Card IC Supports Synchronous Ethernet, SONET/SDH, PDH, and Wireless Systems

Timing-Card IC for SONET/SDH and/or Synch-E Ports

o The DS3102 is a flexible, feature-rich, Stratum 3 timing-card IC for next-generation telecom systems.
o The DS3102 is the industry's first timing-card IC to provide complete synchronization support for systems with SONET/SDH and/or synchronous Ethernet ports.
o Key DS3102 innovations include: (1) the ability to lock to any multiple of 2kHz up to 131.072MHz and any multiple of 4kHz up to 155.52MHz, and (2) the ability to generate any multiple of 2kHz up to 77.76MHz, any multiple of 8kHz up to 311.04MHz, and any multiple of 10kHz up to 388.79MHz.
o This device is ideal for the central clock-synchronization function in telecom systems such as DSLAMs, multiservice access nodes, metro Ethernet switches, core switches, and base stations.

SUNNYVALE, CA-March 5, 2008-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the DS3102, the industry's first timing-card IC to provide full carrier-class, Stratum 3 clock synchronization for G.8262-compliant synchronous Ethernet (Sync-E) equipment. This device is built on Maxim's second-generation, DSP-based, digital PLL (DPLL) technology-the same technology used in Maxim's highly-successful DS3104-SE line-card timing IC. The DS3102 features two independent DPLLs: one for creating the main system clock, and one for generating derived DS1/E1 clocks to send to an external BITS/SSU through DS1/E1 transceivers such as the DS26502 or DS26504. This device provides impressive frequency agility, while supporting all common system clock rates for SONET/SDH, PDH, synchronous Ethernet, and wireless base stations. The DS3102 is ideal for use in timing cards in a wide variety of wireline and wireless systems, including ADMs, digital cross-connects, carrier-class switches and routers, wireless base stations, DSLAMs, and multiservice access nodes.

The DS3102 continually monitors up to eight input clocks, each of which can be assigned to either of the two internal DPLLs. Inputs are continually monitored for activity and frequency and can be automatically qualified and disqualified by the device according to configurable criteria. The eight clock inputs accept all common telecom clock rates, as well as all multiples of 2kHz up to 131.072MHz, and all multiples of 8kHz up through 155.52MHz (differential) or 125MHz (single-ended). The DS3102 can simultaneously produce a total of seven output-clock frequencies plus 2kHz and 8kHz frame pulses. Each output clock can be frequency-locked to either of the two DPLLs for maximum flexibility. The output clocks have the same frequency options as the input clocks, plus differential-signal rates as high as 312.5MHz. In addition, programmable synthesis engines can produce any multiple of 2kHz up to 77.76MHz, any multiple of 8kHz up to 311.04MHz, any multiple of 10kHz up to 388.79MHz, and many other frequencies as needed.

The DS3102 has an SPI(TM)-compatible serial interface and is packaged in an 81-lead, 10mm x 10mm BGA. It has the same package and pin arrangement as the DS3104-SE line-card timing IC, making the two ICs drop-in replacements for one another. The DS3102 is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C industrial temperature range, and an RoHS-compliant package option is available. Prices start at $35.20 (1000-up, FOB USA). A demo kit is available for device evaluation.

Maxim Integrated Products, a two billion dollar company, designs and manufactures ICs for analog and mixed-signal applications. The company's broad portfolio of 27 product categories is among the industry's deepest, with over 5400 products.
