Based on an open and upgradable PC-Card (PCMCIA) modem architecture, the LAN-Cell 2 is compatible with all major worldwide cellular (wireless) carriers and standards including (CDMA) EVDO Rev A, EVDO Rev 0, 1xRTT (1x) and (GSM) HSUPA, HSDPA, UMTS, WCDMA, EDGE and GPRS. The LAN Cell 2's rugged modular metal chassis includes Proxicast's innovative Card Guard(TM) that completely protects the cellular PC-Card modem from harm or tampering and provides a secure external antenna connection jack. The chassis also features Proxicast's unique Card Lock(TM) system that prevents the PC Card from coming loose or being unintentionally removed from the LAN Cell.
The LAN Cell 2 has routing and security features typically found only in wired corporate routers costing thousands more, yet it is priced competitively with stand-alone cellular modems. The LAN Cell's NAT and advanced rule-based ICSA-certified SPI firewall provide highly granular security and policy enforcement for all remote devices and users. The built in ICSA-certified VPN client and server software eliminates the need to configure individual devices and extends secure corporate networks to devices that cannot run VPN client software. Static and policy-based routing, bandwidth management and application level gateway features enable the implementation of sophisticated routing and traffic shaping solutions.
To help users manage cellular data plan costs, the LAN Cell 2 includes Proxicast's Cell-Sentry(TM) Cellular Data Budgeting System. Cell-Sentry monitors the LAN-Cell's cellular data usage and can alert users when predefined thresholds are reached or even block additional cellular usage to avoid overage charges which can be as high as $0.50/MB ($500/GB) or $0.25/minute even on so-called "unlimited" usage plans.
