Pass & Seymour/Legrand Panel TVSS Units Protect Electronic Equipment from Electrical Surges

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Feb. 29, 2008) - Pass & Seymour/Legrand (P&S), a leading manufacturer of electrical wiring devices and home systems, introduces its most rugged line of Panel TVSS Units, delivering premise-wide protection against electrical surges caused by lightning, utility grid switching, and electrical equipment such as motors, arc furnaces and welders.

An electrical surge can destroy electronic devices in homes, offices and plants. Items like security and automation systems, phone systems, computers, audio equipment, appliances, Hi-definition televisions and gaming systems offer just a handful of examples. Few home or business owners can count on insurance to cover the full replacement value of these items, and downtime can be devastating.

Panel TVSS units provide an essential defense against surges, and the 2007 UL 1449 2nd Edition standard requires a greater degree of protection. P&S TVSS devices meet the new standard and include light-, medium- and heavy-duty models in single- and three-phase versions.

"P&S Panel TVSS Units bring stronger protection to virtually any residential, commercial or industrial application," said Lynn Sorbello, Commercial and MRO Specialist at P&S. "The compact designs mount easily beside panels, and several features ensure reliability and better surge detection."

An LED indicator for each conductor makes status checking easy. Each light-duty model has a green LED which turns off when protection is lost. On medium- and heavy-duty units green indicates normal operation while red shows a loss of protection. Some models also include audio alarms.

The TVSS Units include Metal-Oxide Varistors (MOVs) to handle large surges and slow-blow current fuses to manage intermediate surge currents. Upgraded designs offer enhanced reliability at 150A and 50A intermediate currents. Thermal cut-offs (TCOs) back up fuses and guard against aging failure.

The light-, medium- and heavy-duty models include EMI and RFI filtering. Each P&S Panel TVSS Unit comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
