IRC Develops Precision 2W Cylindrical Surface Mount Power Resistor with Surge Tolerance to 1000V

AUSTIN, TX (February 26, 2008) -- Providing power electronics design engineers with a precision, high stability device for high surge applications, TT electronics IRC has developed a cylindrical surface mount power resistor with enhanced precision specifications. Designated the PPC Series, the component merges the high surge capability (up to 1500W for 1 millisecond) of IRC'S renowned CHP Series with enhanced operational precision from tight TCRs.

According to David Winkler, business unit manager for IRC, the company is one of the only manufacturers in the industry to offer a surface mount thick film power resistor with tolerances to 0.1% at TCRs of 25ppm/°C. "The PPC Series combines the precision of thin film with the power handling capabilities of thick film," said Winkler. "The PPC Series resistor is ideal for those high power and pulse applications that cannot trade accuracy or stability for power dissipation."

The PPC Series precision power resistor is ideal for power supply, industrial electronics and instrumentation applications.

Available in 1206, 2010, 2512 and 3610 package sizes, the surface mount PPC Series resistor features maximum power ratings of 1/8W, ½W, 1W and 2W, with working voltages of 200V, 300V, 350V and 500V, respectively. Resistance ranges from 100 to 10K, with tolerances down to ±0.1% and TCRs of ±25ppm/°C.

Pricing for the PPC Series surface mount precision power resistor starts at $0.35 each in quantities of 2500 pieces. Lead time is from stock to 8 weeks.
