Xerox DocuColor 7000AP Digital Press Satisfies Need for Speed

Superior image quality and speed let print providers take on more jobs, turn them around quickly

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Nov. 06, 2007 -- Speed is an invaluable tool in the race for a stronger business. To help businesses win that race, Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) today announced the Xerox DocuColor(TM) 7000AP Digital Press, which offers the ability to select from three print operation modes on a job-by-job basis. This flexibility ensures the highest level of productivity and versatility for the type of application, media or paper weight running through the system.

An "All Weights" mode enables the press to run all stocks at 70 ppm regardless of media weight and type and gives the output a matte appearance. The "Single Weight" mode varies the speed of the system based on stock weight and delivers a glossier look and feel. A third, "Mixed Media" mode, optimizes performance for unique jobs with mixed paper types from multiple trays.

"No two print environments are the same - print providers have diverse production needs that vary from day-to-day and job-to-job. But one thing our customers have in common is they want to print at rated speed regardless of the stock or job requirements," said Quincy Allen, president, Xerox Production Systems Group. "Xerox continues to provide award-winning digital printing systems that offer the highest level of image quality, speed and flexibility to help our customers embrace digital technology to help grow their businesses and increase their profits."

The Xerox DocuColor 7000AP offers the same proven performance and image quality as the 80-ppm Xerox DocuColor(TM) 8000AP, which was recently awarded an "Editor's Choice Award" from Better Buys for Business, a leading research and analyst firm.

"With options to print in different modes, the DocuColor 8000AP digital press expands the range of jobs that we can produce and its ability to maintain speed on heavier stocks has made a big difference in the opportunities we can pursue," said Scott O'Born, vice president, operations and technology, The Printing House, a print operation in Canada. "The DocuColor 7000AP offers the same benefits to print shops that need to produce a similar range of applications but have lower print volumes."

The Xerox DocuColor 7000AP can handle a wide range of Xerox DocuColor(TM) 8000AP Digital Press, including carbonless forms, Xerox DocuCard(TM) and DocuMagnet stocks, labels, business cards, window decals and synthetic substrates such as polyester, while maintaining exceptional image quality and color management. Marketing collateral, signage, postcards, direct-marketing pieces and other high-value applications can be tailored to meet customer specifications, including variable-data content, and produced at the system's rated speed of 70 ppm, helping print providers meet tight turnarounds, expand their offerings and improve their bottom line.

The DocuColor 7000AP offers 2400 x 2400 dpi print resolution for crisp, sharp text and digital screening technology that improves color consistency. The press offers tight front-to-back registration of ±0.5 mm and prints two-sided jobs at rated engine speed without slowing down due to its "race track" paper path - which is an unmatched capability in this class of products.

Print providers are offered the choice of the Xerox FreeFlow(TM) Printer Server 6.0, the Xerox EX Color Server powered by EFI Fiery® or the Xerox CX Color Server powered by Creo®. Each of the networked print servers - the workstations that process incoming print files and drive the digital press - supports variable data printing and combines outstanding color management with a user-friendly interface to yield superb digital color and integrate smoothly into any print environment. The Xerox DocuColor 7000AP also benefits from the Xerox FreeFlow(TM) Digital Workflow Collection, a suite of integrated and modular workflow solutions that works seamlessly with the print engine to help users connect with customers, reduce costs through automation and enable new applications.

An Automated Color Quality suite - currently available for Xerox Xerox iGen3(TM) presses - will also be available for DocuColor 7000AP and DocuColor 8000AP systems with FreeFlow Print Servers. The Automated Color Quality suite streamlines the color calibration process to help print providers speed up the daily maintenance routines that set the press up to deliver consistent and accurate output. This ensures the highest level of image quality and color consistency and frees up time for operators to get other work done.

The DocuColor 7000AP color press is modular to meet the needs of a variety of print environments. Users can choose finishing options ranging from a single feeder and catch tray configuration to the full production offering that features two feeders, a stacker, and a booklet maker. Other optional in-line automatic finishing devices are also available.

Xerox also offers the ProfitAccelerator(TM) Digital Business Resources collection, the industry's most comprehensive portfolio of business development tools, to help print providers create high-value applications and boost their print volume and profits.

Pricing and availability
The Xerox DocuColor 7000AP is immediately available for worldwide order taking. The U.S. manufacturer's list price for the press is $245,000 including a choice of color servers. All products are sold through Xerox direct sales force, agents, resellers and concessionaires.

Xerox will also offer a productivity kit for DocuColor 7000 units placed after June 1, 2007 that enables the device to run all stocks at rated speed. The kit has a list price of $30,000.
