Highly Integrated, Low-Power, Single-Conversion Silicon Tuner for ATSC and NTSC Applications

o The MAX3540 is a highly integrated, single-conversion television tuner for ATSC and NTSC applications.

o This device meets the sensitivity and adjacent-channel guidelines specified by ATSC Recommended Practice A/74, while consuming only 760mW.

o To enable this RF performance, the MAX3540 integrates a tracking filter and high-linearity front-end.

o This silicon tuner is ideal for ATSC/NTSC applications such as televisions and set-top boxes.

SUNNYVALE, CA-January 3, 2008-Maxim Integrated Products (Pink Sheets: MXIM) introduces the MAX3540 highly integrated, single-conversion television tuner for ATSC and NTSC applications. This device meets the sensitivity and adjacent-channel guidelines specified by ATSC Recommended Practice A/74, while consuming only 760mW. To achieve this RF performance, the tuner integrates a tracking filter and high-linearity front-end. Additionally, it reduces power consumption by eliminating the second frequency conversion used in many other silicon tuners. Because it is a single-conversion tuner, the MAX3540 requires only a single SAW filter. Incorporating both RF and IF AGC amplifiers, this device is ideal for televisions, set-top boxes, and USB memory sticks.

The MAX3540 covers the full 54MHz to 860MHz frequency range, providing a standard, 44MHz IF output that is compatible with almost all existing ATSC and NTSC demodulators. This device operates from a single, 3.3V supply and is fully specified over the 0°C to +85°C temperature range. The MAX3540 is available in a 7mm x 7mm, 48-pin flip-chip package. Prices start at $5.90 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available to speed designs.
