Lightning Detection and Early Warning System detects lightning from 40 miles

Lynscan Inc. introduces the SkyScan 4000, a patented lightning detection and early warning system with advanced lightning ranging technology. The SkyScan 4000 detects and displays lightning range data from 0 to 40 miles, which allows the tracking of a storm's position, and sounds a piercing 120 dBA alarm and flashes a powerful strobe light when lightning is within 8 miles. Once the storm has safely passed, the unit sounds an all-clear signal, indicating that it is safe to resume your outdoor activity. Packaged in a rugged, watertight, polyester NEMA 4 (IP66) enclosure and measuring just 15" (L) x 8" (W) x 6" (D) with a weight of less than 10 pounds (4.5 kg), the unit may be easily carried or permanently mounted for fixed monitoring. Power options include 120 VAC (standard) or an optional solar cell panel, allowing remote, "wireless" operation. The SkyScan 4000 includes an installed battery charger and lead-acid battery, which charges overnight and allows use for up to 2 days without recharging. The unit also features an optional auxiliary contact, allowing the automatic disconnection of irrigation systems or sensitive electronic appliances when lightning approaches. Every 12 hours, the SkyScan 4000 automatically self tests the battery and verifies the circuitry, displaying the test results on the front panel. In addition, the alarm outputs may be manually tested and selected. The SkyScan 4000 basic portable model is priced at $3995 and is available for immediate delivery.
