Flexible Display Company Aveso Introduces World's First Commercially Available Electronic Display Inlay for Integration into Plastic Cards

Card manufacturers worldwide now can offer customers the low-cost display cards
they are demanding without retooling lamination processes and equipment

Paris, November 13, 2007 - Aveso, Inc., the emerging frontrunner in flexible displays, today announced at CARTES 2007 - the largest trade show for the smart card and identification industries - the introduction of the world's first commercially available Electronic Display Inlay for plastic card manufacturers. The inlay makes it possible to produce electronic display cards using industry standard hot lamination manufacturing processes and installed equipment.

The electronic display inlay features Aveso's Primero 6|7(TM) flexible numeric display module, along with a battery and circuitry, embedded in a durable plastic structure roughly one-half the thickness of a standard credit card. Inlays are available in both standard sheet formats and customized sheet layouts for cost-effective process development and full display card qualification.

"I've been working with card manufacturers for years," said Grahame Lucas, Aveso's vice president of sales and industry veteran. "They're eager to move on meeting the demand from issuers for reliable display cards, but have been waiting for a viable way to produce them. This inlay makes it painless to integrate displays into their existing card production processes and enables them to offer a new, high-demand product line."

The electronic display inlay was developed with a focus on ease of implementation and compatibility with existing industry infrastructure. Card manufacturers can convert the inlay into ISO 7810-compliant cards using the same collation, hot lamination and die-cutting equipment used to manufacture over 95 percent of plastic cards produced today. Issuers will now be able to procure regionally produced display cards from their current, trusted card manufacturing vendors.

Electronic display cards represent a new generation of value-added plastic card products following recent innovations in the industry, including microprocessor-based smart cards and contactless card products. One-Time Password (OTP) cards for secure online banking and e-commerce transactions are an early application for display cards. The convenient card form factor is expected to quickly displace bulky tokens for generating secure passwords. Future applications include payment and prepaid cards that provide consumers with immediate access to available-credit and remaining-balance information.
