Cryovac® Freshness Plus(TM) Active Packaging Technologies Introduced at Worldwide Food Expo

DUNCAN, S.C. (Oct. 24, 2007) - Known throughout the world as a leader in fresh food packaging, Sealed Air's Cryovac Food Packaging introduces a fresh perspective on active packaging technologies. The new Cryovac® Freshness Plus(TM) family of products is uniquely designed to maximize freshness, flavor and product color while reducing confinement odors.

Current Freshness Plus(TM) packaging technologies enable a focus on quality life through active packaging, not food formulation, including the prevention of mold growth, preservation of food color, and scavenging of oxygen and confinement odors. The technologies are adaptable to a wide range of applications including fresh red meat, processed meats, bakery products and fresh pasta.

Freshness Plus(TM) packaging complements good packaging protocol and can reduce product claims for food processors while improving shrink and providing a broader selling window for retailers. Also, because no iron-based sachets are required to scavenge oxygen, a foreign object is eliminated from the package. This active packaging can help deliver food with better flavor, aroma and appearance.

"Active packaging technologies effectively reduce the need for food additives and preservatives without compromising a product's shelf-life or freshness. They also create an opportunity for cleaner product labels," explains Jim Mize, global vice president of new opportunities for Cryovac Food Packaging of Sealed Air Corp. "The Cryovac® Freshness Plus(TM) product line is a big step in this direction and we plan to continue inventing packaging toward this end."
