Micro Client M@C 70: Extremely Small Panel PC with 7 Inch Display

Eching/Nuremberg, Germany, November 28, 2007 - Today, at the SPS/IPC/Drives in Nuremberg, Germany (Hall 7 / Booth 7-306), Kontron announced the latest and smallest member of its slimline Micro Client family of panel PCs. With a touch-screen display of only 7 inches, the space-saving and versatile Kontron M@C 70 offers scalable Intel® Celeron® performance and a host of interfaces in an easy-to-mount and flexible design.

The new Micro Client M@C 70 is an extremely compact and slim-line (installation depth < 50 mm) panel PC that is less expensive than a full-fledged IPC but still offers sophisticated graphics, intuitive GUIs and touch-screen operation on a 800x480 TFT display. Designed with flexibility in mind, this panel PC provides scalable performance up to the Celeron® M 600 MHz processor for use as either a thin client, web client, user terminal or controller. The Kontron M@C 70 is a flexible solution with 2 x 10/100 Ethernet, 2 x USB 2.0, 1 x RS232 with optional RS422/RS485 as well as optional CAN bus. Power supplies ranging from 11.4 V to 28.8 V ensures safe and direct connection to industrial power systems, making the M@C 70 ideal for a wide range of applications in machine and system manufacturing, vehicle engineering, building management systems, medical technology and transportation to name just a few.

As a complete all in one HMI system, the M@C 70 Micro Client panel PC is also a model choice for Point of Sale, Point of Information, stand alone kiosks and other applications that require easy installation via the rear of the machine. In addition, traditional panel mounting as well as VESA mounting, make the compact and versatile Kontron M@C 70 the truly mount-anywhere panel PC.

Shock and vibration resistance, thermal stability and compliance with the strictest EMC standards are standard features of this 7-inch display panel PC, as is long term availability of at least 5 years. Windows CE.net, Windows XP Embedded and Embedded Linux are also available as standard, along with numerous protocols, including http, XML and Remote Desktop Protocol.

Panel PCs with all the application programs running on a central (web) server are very low-maintenance and highly flexible. The advantages of this thin client architecture include centralized administration and software maintenance, maximum data security through centralized data storage and backup, and high reliability and availability (high MTBF values) through the elimination of rotating mass storage devices and fans, which reduces the total cost of ownership to the minimum.
