Force/Torque Sensor can be used in fresh water environment.
November 26, 2007 -
Suited for naval research applications and tank testing for aerospace applications, IP68 Underwater DAQ Sensors can be used to depth of 10 m for underwater testing. Incorporating nitrile and silicone O-rings to assure that no water enters units, sensors feature sealed stainless steel body construction, and rugged lemo connectors. Series includes models DELTA with 5.8 lb, THETA with 20 lb, OMEGA 160 with 16 lb, OMEGA 190 with 29 lb, and OMEGA 250 with 70 lb capacities.

New Underwater Force/Torque Sensor Available from ATI Industrial Automation
New IP68 Underwater DAQ Sensor, a force/torque sensor for use in underwater (fresh water) environments to a maximum depth of 10 meters, is available from ATI Industrial Automation, Apex, N.C. The sensors are used in Naval Research Applications and Tank Testing for Aerospace Applications. The sensors incorporate nitrile and silicone O-rings to assure that no water enters the units.
The IP68 sensors were tested at the Naval Surface Warfare Center - Carderock Division, West Bethesda, Maryland. After two full days of testing and inspection at the NAVSEA (the Navy's experts for maritime technology) facility, no leaks were detected in the sensor. This validated ATI's previous results achieved in-house. ATI's sensors with an IP68 rating can be used to a depth of 10 meters for underwater testing, weightlessness simulations and other underwater applications. When submerged in water, IP68 sensors exhibit a decrease in Fz output values as it relates to submersion depth. Typically, this loss of effective Fz range results can be biased out, but the loss must be considered when selecting a calibration. When used in non-water fluids, customers must contact ATI to review seal material customization options or to receive information regarding loss of Fz range versus operating depth.
IP68 sensors are available in 5 models: DELTA: 5.8 lbs, THETA: 20 lbs, OMEGA 160: 16 lbs, OMEGA 190: 29 lbs and OMEGA 250: 70 lbs. All units feature sealed stainless steel body construction, rugged lemo connectors and are submersible in fresh water.
