Thermo Fisher Releases KRILPRO Nuclear Level Sensor for Coking Processes

Sugar Land, Texas., (October 25, 2007) - Thermo Fisher Scientific unveiled KRILPRO, designed to improve the efficiency and stability of the delayed coking process used in refineries. The advanced nuclear interface level device uses a reduced source size as the basis of its neutron backscatter technology to provide accurate detection of light, medium and heavy foam as well as wet and dry coke. It enables refiners to maximize coke drum output per cycle while reducing anti-foam usage for optimum process control and improved profitability.

The Thermo Scientific KRILPRO is engineered for extremely high precision, allowing operators to make proactive decisions based upon true coke foam interface. The device's patent-pending pulse-mode ion chamber design allows non-intrusive measurement of hydrogen material in a process vessel and ensures stability and repeatability over a wide temperature range. The source and detector are situated in a housing mounted to one side of the coke drum to simplify installation and maintenance. The KRILPRO can also be integrated with two other Thermo Scientific nuclear devices, the DensityPRO nuclear density gauge and the LevelPRO continuous gamma level gauge, to create a comprehensive coke drum monitoring system.

Key features of the Thermo Scientific KRILPRO include:

Drift-free electronics for high temperature stability

Small source size that is ALARA-compliant in the U.S.; also meets international requirements

High precision and repeatability

State-of-the-art ion chamber design

Wide sensor temperature range

Compact design and lightweight for easy installation and servicing

Rugged design for harsh environments

The KRILPRO is backed by Thermo Fisher Scientific's worldwide service and support network.

"At Thermo Fisher Scientific, we're dedicated to meeting the industry's increasing demands for smaller source sizes. We believe that the KRILPRO's unmatched precision and stability will quickly make it the industry standard in the delayed coking process," said Tony Hart, KRILPRO product manager of Thermo Fisher Scientific. "The KRILPRO builds on our legacy of innovation and showcases our commitment to manufacturing products that deliver a significant return on investment."
