EMC Unveils One of Market's First Network Management Solutions Supporting Native IPv6 Deployments

EMC Smarts IPv6 Availability Manager Offers Fully-Featured Network Management Solution for Native IPv6, IPv4 and Mixed Network Environments

HOPKINTON, Mass., Sept. 17 -- EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today further extended its market leadership with the announcement of EMC Smarts IPv6 Availability Manager -- one of the market's first network management solutions supporting native IPv6 deployments. The software offers comprehensive network discovery, mapping, monitoring, and root-cause analysis for IPv6, IPv4 and mixed environments.

The solution is a key piece of EMC's IT service delivery management portfolio, a comprehensive set of management software based on EMC Smarts and EMC ControlCenter technologies. Aimed at helping customers achieve higher degrees of automation for their data center operations, EMC software provides customers with end-to-end service visibility and control across their complex IT information infrastructures. EMC offers a range of advanced solutions enabling companies to conduct comprehensive discovery, compliance, analysis, automation and visualization of their IT environments.

Smarts IPv6 Availability Manager is one of the market's only solutions to fully automate the end-to-end correlation and analysis of networked infrastructures, including IPv6 protocols and devices. The software fully meets US Federal Government requirements for native IPv6 support and is currently submitted for Ready v6 Logo Testing.

"The Federal government has mandated that all agency networks and all network access to federal agencies must comply with native IPv6 by June 2008," said Jon Oltsik, Senior Analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. "With less than a year left until this mandate is enacted, anyone wishing to provide network services to - or connect with - the federal government must comply with native IPv6."

Continued, Oltsik, "Clearly, this drives demand for network management solutions capable of managing IPv6 networks. Those vendors that make it first-to-market with such products clearly will have a unique advantage."

Smarts IPv6 Availability Manager leverages EMC Smarts' semantic data model - which maps devices, relationships, behaviors and interactions across all layers of the IT infrastructure. This model updates automatically as the environment changes. Additionally, the solution leverages EMC Smarts cross- domain correlation technology, identifying root-cause problems and their impacts across technology domains. Smarts is exceptional in its ability to correlate event, root-cause problems and impacts across all layers of the IPv6 IT infrastructure.

Smarts IPv6 Availability Manager fully matches the functionality of EMC's current IP availability manager product for IPv4, and also provides the following unique capabilities:

o Both IPv4 and IPv6 network discovery
o IPv4 and IPv6 network mapping
o Device polling and monitoring
o IPv4 and IPv6 event generation and root-cause analysis
o IPv6 tunnel monitoring; the ability to manage IPSec tunnels
o IPv6 and IPv4 cross-correlation
o IPv6 to IPv4 tunneling

"EMC Smarts has always been the market leader in network management - providing automated correlation and analysis across the IT infrastructure," said Chris Gahagan, EMC's Senior Vice President, Resource Management Software. "Therefore, it should come as no surprise that we're one of the first-to- market with full support for native IPv6 environments. Today, EMC Smarts is one of the market's only solutions enabling users to get ahead of the IPv6 mandate - offering full automation for the end-to-end correlation and analysis of the networked infrastructure, including native IPv6 protocols and devices."

Additionally, users wishing to take EMC's network management capabilities one step further can now also leverage the company's newly announced EMC IT Performance Reporter - Network Edition. The software offers real-time and historical performance reports on network performance and availability issues for incident/problem and capacity planning. Collecting metrics from Smarts network domain managers, IT Performance Reporter works seamlessly with other Smarts reporting solutions, for true, enterprise reporting of the entire IT infrastructure from a single pane of glass.
