SMD Resistors have thin film nichrome resistive element.
August 30, 2007 -
Available in 3.45 x 1.35 and 5.9 x 2.2 mm packages, MLF series surface mount MELF resistors are capable of tolerances down to .1% and TCRs as low as 10 ppm. Standard and high power versions are available in wattages from ¼ up to 1 W, while typical values are from 10 W up to 5.1 MW. Offered in standard tape and reel packaging on 7 in. reel, products are suited for applications requiring robust pulse power handling and precision.

Stackpole Electronics, Inc. Introduces the MLF Series of Nichrome Metal Film SMD MELF Resistors
New metal film melf style resistors offer stability with good pulse power withstanding...
RALEIGH, NC (August 15, 2007) - Stackpole Electronics, Inc. introduces a new product series of surface mount melf resistors. Designated the MLF series, these resistors have a thin film nichrome resistive element for excellent electrical characteristics, very low noise, precision, and outstanding environmental stability. The cylindrical form has been popular in the power supply market for many years, especially in Europe. Because of the larger amount of resistive material on this type of package, it also exhibits better pulse power characteristics than the similar size thin film chip resistor. Melf resistors are quite often the most cost effective way to achieve more robust surge withstanding.
The MLF is available in industry standard 0204 (roughly 3.45 mm x 1.35 mm) and 0207 (roughly 5.9 mm x 2.2 mm) size packages. Standard and high power versions are available in wattages from ¼ watt up to 1 watt. The MLF is capable of tolerances down to .1% and TCR's as low as 10 ppm. Typical values for this series are from 10 ohms up to 5.1 Meg ohms, although not all values are available in all size tolerance, and TCR combinations.
The MLF is ideal for applications requiring robust pulse power handling and precision. High speed power supplies and controls as well as utility metering and test equipment will require such a device, but in fact melf resistors are regularly used in all types of power supplies and power control modules.
The MLF is available in standard tape and reel packaging on a 7 in reel. Standard reel quantity is 2,000 pcs for the MLF ½ and MLFM 1, and 3,000 pcs for the MLF ¼ and MLFM ½. Pricing is size, tolerance, TCR and volume dependent, but generally ranges from $60 per thousand to $600 per thousand.
