Stretch Inc. Introduces High-Definition Multi-Standard Intelligent IP Camera Reference Design Kit

Industry's Only Single-Chip Solution for Combining Analytics with High-Definition H.264 Encoding

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 20 / -- Stretch® Inc. today announced its IP Camera Reference Design Kit (RDK). As part of Stretch's complete solutions for the video surveillance industry, this production ready reference design includes everything needed to speed development of advanced feature, multi-standard high-definition intelligent network cameras. Based on the new S6105 software configurable processor running the Stretch Intelligent Encoder, the IP Camera RDK offers unsurpassed performance, providing H.264 encode capability at 30 frames per second at resolutions up to 1.3 Megapixels.

The video surveillance market is currently going through a transition from standard definition CCTV cameras to the adoption of network-based surveillance systems that utilize high-definition image sensors, advanced video encoding, and video analytics. It has been estimated that fifty percent of surveillance cameras will be IP network cameras by 2010.

"The video surveillance market is going through a rapid change to networked camera solutions, and Stretch's ability to integrate high-definition video encoding and video analytics in a single chip will be an appealing solution for many IP camera vendors," stated Michelle Abraham, principal analyst for In-Stat's Converging Markets & Technologies Group.

Breakthrough Price Performance in a Single Software Configurable Processor

The IP Camera Reference Design Kit (RDK) uses a single Stretch S6105 device to provide all its compute requirements including video encoding, video analytics, audio encoding, operating system, and networking tasks. Running the Stretch Intelligent Encoder Software Development Kit, (see related press release: "Stretch Inc. Ushers in the Era of Intelligent Encoding for the Video Surveillance Industry"), it can dynamically scale the resolution, frames per second, and quality of the video stream based upon the input of the integrated video analytics.

Referring to recent trends within the surveillance marketplace, Bob Beachler, Stretch vice president of marketing said, "The adoption of analytics within the emerging IP surveillance segment had been hindered by the cost associated with having to use multiple DSPs to achieve the compute requirements of both video encoding and analytics. The performance of our S6000 family of devices provides, for the first time, a single chip solution for video analytics and multi-stream, multi-standard, high definition IP cameras at a mainstream price point."

All the Software Required for Intelligent IP Cameras is Included

At the heart of the included software is the Stretch Intelligent Encoder, which supports MJPEG, H.264, G.711, and G.726 encoding. Frame rate and resolution of the encoded stream are dynamically set, either in response to user input or as a result of trigger conditions being met within the video stream. In this way, the Stretch IP Camera Reference Design Kit can optimize the network bandwidth needed as a function of user preferences and the level of interest in a particular scene. The Intelligent Encoder's built-in analytics provide scene change, blind and motion detection, as well as night detection, and can be used to dynamically change resolutions and frame rates of the recorded stream as a function of pre-defined trigger criteria. Multiple areas of interest can be defined to further refine the definition of trigger criteria.

All IP network camera software is included in the kit. Running the Micrium uCOS/II real time operating system, it includes web server software, TCP/IP network stack and supports all required networking protocols. The IP Camera RDK also includes complete software drivers for advanced features including dynamic resolution sizing and electronic and mechanical Pan/Tilt/Zoom.

Complete Hardware Reference Design

The Stretch IP Camera Reference Design Kit is a full-featured kit supporting today's most popular image sensors, including those from Micron, Pixim, Sony, and others. In addition to streaming either H.264 or MJPEG through TCP/IP, it can locally store video or images on an included SD flash card. It has multiple power options, including Power over Ethernet, 12V DC, and 24V AC. It supports analog video output, as well as multiple alarms, triggers, RS485 for PTZ, and iris control.

Availability and Pricing

The IP Camera Reference Design Kit is available immediately and Stretch will be demonstrating it at ISC East in New York City September 11-12th, 2007 in booth #1855 and at ASIS International 2007 in Las Vegas, September 24-26th, 2007 in booth #252. Pricing starts at $1,995 for the evaluation kit (ordering code: HW-EVK-S6105CAM) or $37,000 for the full IP Camera RDK with distribution licenses and design file information (ordering code: HW-RDK-S6105CAM).
