Elma Announces New Ultra-Flexible Modular Instrument Cases

FREMONT, California, July 16, 2007 - Elma Electronic Inc., a global manufacturer of electronic packaging products, has introduced a highly flexible design that makes customization easy and affordable. The Type 35 Variety Case has many benefits for medical products, instrument cases, industrial enclosures, and various commercial applications. The modular design of the Type 35 Variety Case allows exact-sizing of the enclosure without high customization costs. It starts with highly functional aluminum extrusion, which are cut to any specified length. The extrusion is designed to accept tapped strips, sealing cords for EMC, optional direct mounting of a panel or PCB, grounding terminals, or screws.

This flexibility saves a few manufacturing steps, keeping costs low. Further, the extrusion shape allows the extrusion and panels to be directly mated together. This prevents drilling and tapping the extrusion, again saving costs. The benefit to the customer is he can have an exact-sized case that is customized with a low cost - and in small volumes. Typically, this kind of customization would only be cost-effective in high volumes. Now, it can be done for prototypes and small volumes.

Elma's highly flexible design means the enclosure can be used in a wide variety of applications and configurations. The enclosures have conductive inner surface and sufficient contact points for EMC. The removable side panels allow access to inside components and the simple design and few pieces allow fast and easy assembly. The aluminum construction is lightweight and the robust surface can be anodized or painted per the custom's specifications.

Lead-time is 2-4 weeks ARO.
