News Story

Tamper-Evident Shrinkbanders offer 30-400 cpm line speeds.

July 12, 2007 - Suited for food and diary product packaging, tamper-evident F-Series Shrinkbanders are fully mechanical and do not use vacuum or pneumatics. They apply tamper-evident bands 1-1.6 in. high to large diameter tubs and containers used for various applications, and accommodate band dia from 2.5-6.75 in. Built to UL standards, fully enclosed, stainless steel systems interface with Smooth Diversion Inspection/Ejection System.

Tamper-Evident Shrinkbander for Food and Dairy Tubs Enhances Safety, Eliminates Regulatory Risk

THE SITUATION: Tamper evidence has become an urgent priority for reclosable packaging. Tamper evidence is not yet mandatory for food and dairy products, but FDA has begun debiting dairy facilities if the dairy processor's cap lacks a tamper-evident seal.

With sufficient point losses, a processor can have its products downgraded, and lose the ability to ship "Grade A" products across state lines.

June 18, 2007. Norwalk, CT. PDC International Corporation, a developer and manufacturer of tamper-evident packaging and labeling machinery, has engineered and commercialized a flexible system for applying shrinkbands around the upper portion of tapered and straight-wall tubs and lids. Fully mechanical, the systems do not use vacuum or pneumatics.

F-Series shrinkbanders apply tamper evident bands 1 to 1.6 in. (25 to 40 mm) high to large diameter tubs and containers used for dairy spreads, ice cream, oatmeal, prepackaged delicatessen foods, cultured products, yogurt, caviar, and dessert toppings. PVC, PETG, PLA, and OPS films, in gauges as thin as 40 micron, (1.5 mil) are usable, depending on throughput rate and cap configuration.

F-Series shrinkbanders accommodate band diameters from 2.5 to 6.75 in. (63 to 172 mm). Three standard models have line speeds ranging from 30 to 400 cpm, depending on container dimensions. The fully enclosed, stainless steel system was designed for easiest wash-down in food and dairy environments. It has a touch screen interface, static eliminator and upstream photo eyes. There are sensors for low material and film feed irregularity.

The F-Series interfaces easily with PDC's Smooth Diversion Inspection / Ejection System, which confirms the location of bands and gently diverts imperfect packages without disrupting operation. Tool-less changeover is available.

PDC F-Series shrinkbanders are built to UL standards. As with all PDC systems, the use of off-the-shelf components minimizes operational costs throughout the system's long service life.
