Reticulated Foams feature low density.
May 24, 2007 -
Offered in aluminum, stainless steel, nickel, vitreous carbon, alumina, and silicon carbide, chemical resistant foams are reticulated with metal, carbon, and ceramic. They feature high surface area to volume ratio and high strength to weight ratio, and can be conductive/insulating depending on material chosen. Applications include porous electrodes, high-temperature insulation, filters, storage batteries, and 3D network of reinforcing fibers in composites.

Reticulated Foams Maximize Surface Area to Volume Ratio
Oakdale, PA - April 30, 2007 - Goodfellow announces the availability of metal, carbon and ceramic reticulated foams low-density, permeable structures of cells and continuous ligaments that offer important benefits to researchers and design engineers. Thanks in part to the continuous ligaments, reticulated foams have an unusually high surface area to volume ratio. Available from Goodfellow in aluminum, stainless steel, nickel, vitreous carbon, alumina and silicon carbide, these low-density foams also have a high strength to weight ratio and possess the same chemical resistance as the parent material. They can be conductive or insulating, depending on the material chosen.
Reticulated foams can be used in an extremely wide range of applications, including
o Porous electrodes (electrically conductive materials)
o High-temperature insulation
o Filters
o Three-dimensional network of reinforcing fibers in composites
o Storage batteries
o Scaffolds for biological growth
o Acoustic control
o Cores in structural sandwich panels
o Heat exchangers
More information about reticulated foams can be found on the online Goodfellow Catalog at www.goodfellow.com.
