Sciemetric Launches NVH and Torque Testing Systems

Manufacturing intelligence solutions increase profitability by permanently eliminating root causes of defects

OTTAWA, April 3 /- Sciemetric Instruments, a leading provider of analytics software-driven manufacturing intelligence solutions, today announced the general availability of its noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) and torque testing systems, SigPOD NVH and SigPOD Torque.

SigPOD is a robust, industry-leading hardware platform designed for usability and visibility in the live production environment. Sciemetric offers a full range of SigPOD instrumentation products that are used to verify and control a variety of standard manufacturing operations such as assembly press monitoring, leak testing, vibration analysis and functional testing.

Historically, NVH testing has intimidated manufacturers because of its complex nature and the unreliable results delivered by subjective and inconsistent testing methods such as human response and traditional acoustics measurements. Increasingly, as suitable technology becomes available and sound and vibration quality escalates in value by impacting overall performance and consumer-purchasing decisions, manufacturers are becoming aware of the benefit of conducting NVH testing in a more sophisticated manner through automation and analysis.

SigPOD NVH is the industry's first sound and vibration monitoring system made for the assembly manufacturing environment and is a self-configurable, easy-to-use system that simplifies the implementation of complex NVH testing.

SigPOD Torque simplifies tests on any assembly with a rotating part such as electric motors, pumps and compressors.

As with the full suite of SigPOD test platforms, SigPOD NVH and SigPOD Torque are driven by Sciemetric's process signature verification technology (PSV) that captures and analyzes entire waveforms and transforms raw data into actionable information, enabling manufacturers to address issues to improve productivity and profitability. Sciemetric's manufacturing intelligence software, QualityWorX, utilizes those acquired data to report on quality and to enable continuous process improvement by detecting and analyzing root causes of defects and permanently solving problems in production processes.

"NVH tests typically produce inconsistent results and fail to detect a significant percentage of defects," said Sciemetric CEO Steve Panyko. "Our latest out-of-the-box NVH and Torque testing solutions enable fundamental root-cause detection, combining automated on-the-line and off-line analysis. This helps our customers succeed in these challenging and critical testing processes. Combined with QualityWorX our clients have trend analysis of NVH testing never before available and can set test limits based on hard information and analysis."

Market predictions are in favor of test solutions sustained by advanced quality software. According to a January 2007 AMR Research study, manufacturing is claiming the top spot in application software budgets, ahead of enterprise resource planning (ERP). The study emphasized that software applications that reduce manufacturing cycle times, catch quality issues during production rather than after, support lean inventory-management, and keep assets running at their optimal levels will all see an increased level of investment this year.

SigPOD NVH and SigPOD Torque are easy to use with ingenious functionality, configuration wizards and user-friendly GUI. They deliver advanced defect detection in a scaleable and flexible platform that can be used for single tests or throughout the plant for virtually any application.

SigPOD NVH and SigPOD Torque also facilitate advanced manufacturing-process analysis by transferring data from the platform to QualityWorX. This advanced level of analysis enables manufacturers to demonstrate on-spec quality conformance, maximize yield, limit impact of quality spills, conduct root cause analysis to avoid defects and, ultimately, accelerate production line launches.
