Vectron International Introduces Small, Surface Mount VCXO for High Reliability Space Applications
New VCXO Expands Capabilities of Industry Standard Crystal Oscillators to Bring Proven Performance and Quality Levels to Space Applications
MOUNT HOLLY SPRINGS, Pa., March 6 -- Vectron International, a leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of Frequency Control, Sensor, and Hybrid Product solutions, today announced its new highly-reliable, surface mount 5116 Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator (VCXO) for mission-critical space applications. Now radiation tolerant to 100 kRads(Si) total dose, Vectron's 5116 VCXO for the first time expands the capabilities of industry-standard MIL-PRF-55310/27 clock oscillators into the space market, offering customers proven reliability and performance for their demanding space applications, including manned and unmanned military and commercial satellites.
"With more than 40 years of experience designing and developing high- precision frequency control solutions for the space applications market, Vectron understands and is committed to meeting the unique needs of this industry," said Alan Mond, vice president, global sales, Vectron. "Our new 5116 VCXO is a breakthrough offering for our customers, who have been searching for a smaller, more reliable product."
Vectron's 5116 VCXO is designed in a 9 x 14 mm enclosure to help customers reduce deployment costs by miniaturizing their satellite payloads without sacrificing performance or quality. With its extremely ruggedized J-Leaded surface mount ceramic package architecture, brazed kovar leads and equivalent form factor to industry-standard MIL-PRF-55310/27 clock oscillators, the new 5116 VCXO has the same performance and quality assurance levels that were previously only available from larger, through hole, dual in-line or double dual in-line packages (DIP or DDIP).
Key features include:
o 4 Point Crystal Mount and Swept Quartz (standard architecture for
flight models)
o Choice of Class S or Class B Screening IAW MIL-PRF-55310
o 100 kRad total dose radiation tolerant
o Wide (1 to 85 MHz) nominal frequency range
o Wide (plus or minus 50 ppm) absolute pull range available
Manufacturing expertise drives high reliability space solutions
To support the highly specialized manufacturing processes required for space applications, Vectron has dedicated areas for space program manufacturing, including Class 100,000 clean rooms and Class 100 horizontal laminar work flow stations. To ensure high reliability and performance in space, each and every Vectron manufactured device is thoroughly tested before it is delivered to ensure it meets all required electrical and environmental specifications. The company's state-of-the-art, in-house testing facilities create a simulated space environment that includes shock, vibration, humidity, temperature extremes, vacuum PIND, seal and other conditions.
Vectron's proven, high quality, high reliability space solutions are represented in space programs for industry leaders including Boeing, General Dynamics, Harris, Honeywell, ITT, JPL, Lockheed Martin, NASA, Raytheon and others, and have been designed in various space, communication and earth observation satellite applications including the Mars Pathfinder, Iridium satellites and Globalstar satellite phones, as well as in various space shuttle and manned space station projects.
