Whole Package Testing System Quickly Analyzes Permeability in Multiple Finished Packages

Package analyzer quickly and easily tests finished packages to determine oxygen transmission rates.

Glen Rock, NJ: PermMate, a new package analyzer available from PBI-Dansensor America Inc., sets a standard in package testing accuracy, shelf life predictions, efficiency and economy by permitting packagers to move beyond flat sheet material testing to quickly and easily determine whole package oxygen transmission rates (OTR) for multiple packages in a variety of packaging configurations at a range of temperature and humidity conditions.

Although flat sheet materials used in traditional tests scored reasonably well on permeability and barrier qualities; when the same approved materials were converted into finished packages, packagers found that oxygen and vapor transmission characteristics of the finished package changed and often affected package shelf life performance.

The versatile PermMate tester moves beyond individual flat sheet testing to analyze a quantity of finished packages that may include pouch, blister and rigid bottle formats in various shapes and sizes at a range of temperature and humidity conditions.

The PermMate PC controller manages oxygen, temperature, and total gas consumption utilizing only a very small sample volume. The equipment features self-diagnostic monitoring to ensure reliability and performance. Statistical analysis, data logging, traceability and printed reports are produced on demand. An optional bar code scanner and printer offer an easy and secure method for tracking and communicating data.

PBI-Dansensor developed fast-responding PermMate to work as a companion to Check Mate II, a spot test gas analyzer. When utilized as a total package testing system the operator is able to obtain fast, reliable, well-documented feedback for measuring oxygen in MAP packages.
