Varian, Inc. Releases Data Dependent Scanning Option for Mass Spectrometry

CHICAGO, Feb. 26 /- Varian, Inc. (NASDAQ:VARI) announced today its new data dependent scanning option for the 500-MS Ion Trap Mass Spectrometer. TurboDDS(TM) delivers complex tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) or MSn measurements automatically, based on limited and simple operator specified criteria.

TurboDDS employs a patent pending algorithm for automatically determining optimum ion dissociation parameters to deliver superior data up to 5 times faster than existing instruments.

Complex sequences of mass spectrometric measurements can be accomplished in a single chromatographic separation, greatly reducing the time required for structural analyses. High resolution scanning and extended mass range to 3500Da are included with this product to further enhance the information content derived from samples.

Addressing the needs of pharmaceutical, biotechnology and academic researchers, TurboDDS delivers qualitative information for identification of unknowns and aids structural elucidation. Applications range from the analysis and identification of drug metabolites in biological samples to the mapping and sequencing of peptides and proteins.

TurboDDS generates high quality, information rich data. The results are processed in the Varian MS workstation and readily exported to standard third party databases and applications software for further analysis.

"Data dependent scanning significantly extends the capabilities of the 500-MS," said Martin O'Donoghue, Senior Vice President, Scientific Instruments, Varian, Inc. "The combination of speed and sensitivity available for structural analyses extends Varian's reach into the growing field of life science research."
