X-Ray Molecular Spectrometer helps identifiy potential threats.

December 6, 2006 - Interpreting standard checkpoint 2-D X-Ray tomography to identify containers and their contents, Optosecurity XMS (X-Ray Molecular Spectrometer) recognizes potential threats according to their unique molecular signatures and identifies innocuous materials and liquids that may be assembled into explosives. Product can be connected to existing x-ray checkpoint systems to improve threat detection and works inline without requiring secondary offline processes.

Optosecurity Announces the World's First Inline Liquid Threat Detection System for Security Checkpoints that Interprets Standard X-Ray Tomography to Identify Potential Liquid Threats

The Optosecurity XMS upgrades legacy checkpoint X-Ray systems and improves the efficiency of security screeners to detect explosive threats, including seemingly innocuous materials/liquids that can be combined into threats.

QUEBEC, Nov. 15 / - Optosecurity Inc., http://www.optosecurity.com/, a company developing breakthrough security products that improve the consistency and performance of checkpoint security systems and screeners, today announced it has developed a new and unique technology that can identify containers and their contents, which may be potential threats. The threat detection and identification is achieved by interpreting standard checkpoint 2-D X-Ray tomography (imagery). Optosecurity has filed a number of patents in the United States and internationally regarding this technology. (XMS = X-Ray Molecular Spectrometer)

Key features of the Optosecurity XMS include:

o Interprets standard 2-D X-Ray tomography (imagery) to identify container
and their contents
o Identifies potential threats according to their unique molecular
signatures, including oxidizers and flammables
o Can identify seemingly innocuous materials/liquids that may be assembled
into an IED's
o Can be connected to any existing X-Ray checkpoint system to improve
threat detection
o Works INLINE on existing X-Ray checkpoints without requiring secondary
offline processes
o Automated Threat Detection improves the performance of security
Screeners and reduces their workload
o Fast performance allows for 100% PBS explosives screening
o Does not require any additional or costly upgrades to X-Ray system
(Multi-View X-Ray or CT), nor changes to the existing screening process
o Small physical footprint, clamped to the side of X-Ray machines, does
not require physical changes to checkpoint areas
o Simple to deploy and use, touch screen LCD user interface
o XMS may be combined with the OptoScreener, the world's first optical
threat detection system (weapons and weapon components)

Eric Bergeron, President and CEO of Optosecurity, said, "The Optosecurity XMS directly addresses the leading vulnerability and challenge at security checkpoints - the ability to accurately and quickly identify containers and contents that may be potential threats, including liquids The August 10th Heathrow plot demonstrated just how vulnerable we are to these threats - the social and economic consequences are incredible. Airlines are reported to have lost hundreds of millions of dollars and travelers in airports worldwide were permeated with fear and frustration because of related security changes and delays. Our product is revolutionary because it identifies possible threats by interpreting standard 2-D X-Ray tomography. We are the only company to have an INLINE explosive threat detection technology".

The Optosecurity XMS has been demonstrated to prospect customers and partners and is in development for launch and deployment in 2007. The XMS System is designed to be integrated with legacy X-Ray systems stand-alone, or may be bundled with the OptoScreener for additional performance in threat assessment. When bundled, both the OptoScreener and XMS are housed in the same hardware unit clamped on the side of the legacy X-Ray system.
