Eliminate Floating Device Installations with the Shim-Lock

SYRACUSE, NY (Oct. 12, 2006) - Pass & Seymour/Legrand (P&S), a leading manufacturer of electrical wiring devices and home systems, today announced its new Shim-lock, designed to mount devices flush in oversized drywall, tile and panel wall applications.

The Shim-lock fastens onto the screw in the mounting slot of an electrical wiring device or lighting control strap. Once the screw is tightened to the desired depth, the Shim-lock's tabs lock it in place flush with the wall to eliminate a floating installation in any residential or commercial device application.

"Floating device installation has been a complicated problem for contractors, and P&S developed the Shim-lock based on direct contractor feedback," said Lynnette Sorbello, Commercial Product Specialist for P&S. "This simple, inexpensive solution helps to provide the perfect flush mount every time, regardless of wall condition."

Made of steel with a heat-treated finish and clear zinc chromate plating, the Shim-lock is .310″ in length with a #6 screw opening. One Shim-lock provides device adjustment depth range from 1/8″ to ¾.″

Previous methods of solving floating installation problems included: wrapping wire around the screw, using a piece of sheetrock to shore the device or placing washers on the mounting screws.

For more information about the Shim-lock, contact your P&S representative or visit the company's Web site at www.passandseymour.com.
