FCI Introduces Latch-N-Lok(TM) System for USB+Power

ETTERS, PA. (August 28, 2006) - FCI, a leading supplier of connectors and interconnect systems, introduces the Latch-n-Lok(TM) Connector for USB+Power applications. Latch-n-Lok is a shielded, latching I/O connector system for high-speed signals and power applications. When coupled with FCI's USB+Power connectors, it creates a rugged, stable connection for applications where power requirements exceed the capabilities of standard USB. This includes inventory management, retail scanning, industrial processing, and gaming devices.

USB+Power connectors combine standard USB contacts with additional power contacts to provide an additional 5 amps of current-carrying capacity beyond the standard 1 amp from traditional USB. This eliminates the need for an independent power supply on most peripheral devices, thereby reducing space and removing a potential point of system failure.

"The Latch-N-Lok system for the USB+Power connectors combines design flexibility with stable, secure connections to create a state-of-the-art solution for high-power applications," said Sean Riley, marketing manager for FCI. "The Latch-N-Lok connector system is a perfect fit for USB+Power because the unique latching feature with shields ensures uninterrupted power for applications that can be compromised by unscheduled downtime."

Connectors are available with varying color and mechanical keying to denote voltage levels of 5V, 12V, and 24V. The Latch-N-Lok system used as the 'B' end of a USB+Power cable features a quick connect system that ensures positive latching with an audible 'click.' The highly reliable design has the FCI Mini PV receptacle contacts mating to phosphor bronze .025" square pin contacts in single and double row 0.1" pitch configurations. This design guarantees correct assembly, as well as high-speed serial data transmission.

The USB+Power system with Latch-N-Lok meets requirements for USB 2.0 for data transmission speeds. Board-mounted receptacles are available in both standard through-hole and mid-board options. The USB+Power receptacle also mates with a standard USB 'A' plug for those devices not requiring additional power.

Typical pricing for the Latch-n-Lok for USB+Power ranges from $2.85 each for the plug kits at 100 pieces to $1.81 each for the board mount receptacles at 100 pieces. Samples are available for delivery, with production lead times from stock to 8 weeks.
