Reynolds and Reynolds Introduces New Parts Barcoding Inventory Management Solution

Bar code scanning technology can streamline parts receiving process and inventory audits by up to 50 percent

DAYTON, Ohio, Aug. 7 // -- The Reynolds and Reynolds Company (NYSE:REY) today announced a new Parts Barcoding Inventory Management solution for automotive dealerships in the United States. The comprehensive solution consists of an inventory management application and wireless handheld scanner/printer combo that allows dealers to efficiently and accurately manage their parts inventory.

In 2005, U.S. franchised dealerships sold $48.9 billion in parts according to NADA. Parts are a key asset and a significant source of revenue for most dealers. Yet, their profitability depends on the efficient management and control of that inventory -- from the moment the dealership receives a part to the moment it's sold to a customer or installed by a technician.

The Reynolds Parts Barcoding Inventory Management solution will help dealers receipt parts orders and take cyclical, or periodic partial inventory audits, and also annual physical inventories. With the solution, parts orders can be scanned and placed into inventory up to 50 percent faster than manually -- as a result, parts get to the technician or customer quicker. The solution also manages and reports on parts inventory levels, giving dealers precise information and helping them better manage inventory.

Today, many dealerships manually check in new parts and conduct physical and cyclical inventories -- an approach that is time consuming, error-prone and costly in terms of labor.

According to Jon Strawsburg, vice president of Fixed Operations at Reynolds, "This solution will help dealerships speed up the pace of business in the parts area. With the technology, parts are available for use much quicker, and keeping bin counts accurate is no longer an ominous chore. In the end, it helps dealers reduce administrative time and labor -- saving them money."

Features of Reynolds Parts Barcoding Inventory Management solution include:

o Wireless Handheld Scanners - Parts employees can move about freely to
scan parts boxes and bins. The scanner transmits all scanned data to the
inventory management application for reconciliation.
o Built-in Scanner Printer - The wireless handheld scanner includes a
built-in printer that quickly prints custom labels to be used for
special order parts or to label parts bins for easy identification.
o Physical and Cyclical Inventory Capabilities - With the wireless
scanners and near real-time data transfer, dealerships can conduct
inventory audits and annual physical inventory quicker, easier and more
accurately -- helping to reduce labor costs.
o Inventory Management Reports - The solution empowers dealers to create
detailed inventory reports and export them into Excel files for easy
sharing and reviewing.

The Parts Barcoding Inventory Management solution is offered as part of the REYNOLDSYSTEM(TM), a comprehensive, dealer-driven approach to bringing the right set of experienced people, proven practices and comprehensive solutions to dealers. Dealerships interested in the solution can contact Reynolds at 1-800-767-7879 for more information.
