Wisair Introduces Multi Mode Chip Based on Certified Wireless USB

Enabling Host, Device and Dual Role Wireless USB Solutions

CAMPBELL, Calif., Aug. 2 / - Wisair, a leading provider of WiMedia Ultra Wideband (UWB) chipset solutions, today announced that it has expanded its line of chipsets with the introduction of the 542 chip, based on Certified Wireless USB from the USB-IF. Proven in silicon, the new 542 chip provides a high-performance wireless solution for PCs and laptops, PC peripherals, and consumer electronics devices such as wireless hubs, external hard drives, digital cameras, camcorders, and portable media players.

The 542 chip supports multiple Wireless USB modes for host and device-side implementations, including Device Wire Adapter (DWA), Host Wire Adapter (HWA), Native Device and Dual Role Device (DRD). Featuring an integrated Wireless USB protocol stack, the 542 chip is implemented with hardware-software partitioning to deliver uncompromising performance and flexibility.

Based on its 542 combined with its 502 Radio Frequency (RF) chip, Wisair will be providing low-cost and low power-consumption reference designs supporting interfaces such as SDIO, USB and Local Bus Interface.

"Our new Wireless USB chipset is created to provide full interoperability with all systems based on Certified Wireless USB, and to enable fast growth of the Wireless USB market," said David Yaish, CEO of Wisair. "The 542 chip incorporates the wealth of expertise we have accumulated through the development of our existing UWB chipsets and through numerous implementations with leading OEM and ODM companies."

Wisair has further integrated into the 542 chip its Detect and Avoid (DAA) mitigation technology in order to meet wireless regulatory requirements worldwide, including those from Europe and Japan. The Detect and Avoid mechanism allows UWB to coexist peacefully with current and future wireless technologies sharing the same spectrum, such as WiMAX or 3G/4G cellular networks.
