Kuka Robotics Introduces New Family of Compact Six Axis Robots

New Compact Six Axis Robots Combined with KUKA User Friendly Controls Enables Easy to Implement Automation Solutions

Clinton Township, Michigan - July 24, 2006 - KUKA Robotics Corporation, a leading global manufacturer of industrial robots, today announced the introduction of its KUKA KR5 Sixx robot family. The new robot family is designed for customers with applications requiring 6-axis functionality for long reach tasks. The new robots when combined with KUKA Robotics' user friendly PC-based control platform gives customers an extremely easy to use and easy to learn pick and place automation solution. The new robots broaden the KUKA product line to include compact space-saving robots that are among the fastest and most reliable robots in their class.

"Customers with pick and place, assembly or material handling applications that require the flexibility of 6 axis will find the KUKA KR5 Sixx ideal," said Kevin Kozuszek, director of marketing for KUKA Robotics Corporation. "This compact robot and the user-friendly KUKA PC-based controller combine short cycle times and high accuracy with the dependability of KUKA controls."

The KUKA KR5 Sixx robot family includes 650mm and 850mm reach models and are capable of handling payloads up to 5kg. The 6 axis robots' light weight gives the robot optimum acceleration and maximum working velocities.

KUKA Robotics Corporation, with its parent company KUKA Roboter GmbH, Augsburg, Germany, is one of the world's leading manufacturers of industrial robots, with an annual production volume approaching 10,000 units, and an installed base of over 75,000 units. The company's 5 and 6 axis robots range from 3kg to 570kg payloads, and 635mm to 3700mm reach, all controlled from a common PC based controller platform. KUKA robots are utilized in a diverse range of industries including the appliance, automotive, aerospace, consumer goods, logistics, food, pharmaceutical, medical, foundry and plastics industries and in multiple applications including material handling, machine loading, assembly, packaging, palletizing, welding, bending, joining, and surface finishing.
