Position Transducer measures up to 4 in. of travel.

March 12, 2002 - Model 174-0321T subminiature position transducer uses stainless steel cable wound around stainless steel drum. Bearing-mounted drum is mated to potentiometric element that translates linear position information to electrical signal. Transducer monitors cable acceleration in excess of 50 g's, and features 5K ohm co-molded conductive plastic potentiometric elements. It has operating temperature of -65 to +125 deg C, and power rating of 0.75 watt.

Subminiature Position Transducer for High-Acceleration Applications

Monitors Cable Acceleration in Excess of 50 g's

PALMDALE, CA -- Adding to its line of subminiature position transducers, SpaceAge Control now offers the Model 174-0321T subminiature position transducer. This product delivers extended-life, high-reliability linear position measurement for applications involving high acceleration (greater than 20 g's).
Initial applications have included crash test dummy abdomen displacement monitoring, vehicle impact testing, and munitions testing.

The flexible and space-efficient products use a stainless steel cable wound around a stainless steel drum. The bearing-mounted drum is mated to a precision potentiometric element that translates linear position information to an electrical signal. This transducer technology gives high precision, easy installation, and fast calibration. The products may be quickly mounted using 2-56 screws provided, an optional rotatable mounting base, or custom installation plates.

The product measures up to 4 inches (101.6 mm) of travel with external dimensions of only 1.71 inches (43 mm) diameter by 0.68 inches (17 mm) wide. The products weigh approximately 2 oz. (57 g) and are available with right-hand or left-hand cable pull. Custom configurations are available for unique applications.

The product features a 5K ohm co-molded conductive plastic potentiometric elements, a -65 to +125 deg C operating temperature range, ±0.5% linearity, 0.75 watt power rating, and operates for more than 100 million shaft revolutions. Cable tension is 56 oz. (16 N) nominal.

SpaceAge Control designs and manufactures miniature position transducers that are small, flexible alternatives to LVDTs, encoders, and potentiometers. The ISO 9001-compliant company was
started in 1968 and is located in Palmdale, California USA.
