ST. PAUL, Minn. - (January 22, 2002) New flame-retardant polyester 3M(TM) Scotchmate(TM) Reclosable Fasteners Series SJ3586FR and SJ3587FR meet the Federal Aviation Administration's 60-second and 12-second vertical burn tests (FAR 25.853 paragraph (a)(1)(i) and (a)(1)(ii) respectively).
The durable hook and loop interlocking design can be opened and closed hundreds of times for access or frequent repositioning applications such as seat cushions, interior trim covers, and wall panels. Sound and vibration dampening characteristics of the soft loop fabric also helps reduce squeaks and rattles while providing a cleaner appearance than mechanical fasteners.
"Ease of use, noise reduction, and secure surface attachment are popular among OEMs and maintenance crews," says Angela Dreis, 3M Market Development Manager. "Scotchmate fasteners can also attach insulation blankets and secure cargo liner material. There are hundreds of applications on aircrafts for reclosable fasteners. And because our polyester fasteners are lighter than traditional mechanical fasteners, they help reduce aircraft fuel consumption as well."
Available with a pressure sensitive adhesive backing or plain-backed, 3M Scotchmate polyester reclosable fasteners work with a variety of substrates: metal, glass, polyethylene, vinyl, fabric, and more. Adhesive-backed versions feature a strong, fire- retardant adhesive which securely bonds to smooth surfaces and provides excellent holding power from -20°F (-29°C) to 158°F (70°C). A variety of colors and widths are available. For added convenience, Scotchmate fasteners can be ordered in die-cut, ready-to-use shapes and sizes.
The 3M Engineered Adhesives Division is the most comprehensive single source for adhesives, tapes, and reclosable fasteners for industrial manufacturers to help improve the design, assembly and performance of their products.
