Atlas Copco's Redesigned Small GA Compressor Range Delivers More Performance, Flexibility, Reliability

New standard and VSD models provide eight percent increase in air delivery

Atlas Copco Compressors announced today the introduction of its redesigned small oil-injected screw compressor range - the GA 5-11/GA 5-15 kW Variable Speed Drive (VSD). Through an eight percent increase in free air delivery (FAD), noise levels as low as 60 decibels, new VSD voltage variants, and an extended operating range, the GA 5-11/GA 5-15 VSD range sets new industry standards in performance, flexibility and reliability.

An enhanced Elektronikon® controller and a new tank-mounted GA 15 VSD model boost the functionality of the small GA range of compressors across general assembly and manufacturing industries, including automotive, water treatment, air segmentation, construction and many others. This redesigned small GA range of tank-mounted air compressors provides customers with the flexibility of approximately 40 different configurations to meet their facility's needs.

"Energy costs account for up to 70 percent of an air compressor's total cost of ownership, and Atlas Copco is committed to drastically reducing this energy consumption with every new compressor we design," said Stewart Friddle, product manager, small GA range - United States. "Our engineers have succeeded in lowering the Specific Energy Requirements (SER) in this redesigned range by up to eight percent through an integration of a new screw compressor element in enhanced packaging."

"In combination with the range's eight percent increase in FAD, remarkable energy savings are achieved across the line," added Friddle.

When compressed air demand is fluctuating, the advanced control algorithms of Atlas Copco's VSD create additional average energy savings of 35 percent. The entire GA 5-15 VSD range is equipped with new saver cycles on both fan and dryer, which increases the average energy savings further. The GA VSD models, including a tank-mounted GA 15 VSD and new standard Voltage 200/575 variants, also reduce installation costs.

The introduction of the Elektronikon® in the GA 5-15 VSD provides remote online monitoring for the first time in this compressor class. This internet-based compressor visualization technology increases both reliability and efficiency through a variety of control and monitoring features. The graphical controller (a standard feature for the VSD unit) enables the control of up to six compressors.

Noise levels from 60 decibels increase installation flexibility by allowing compressors in the GA 5-11/GA 5-15 VSD range to be installed close to the point of use on the facility floor. Installation costs are reduced further by extending the standard operating range to 46° C, which eliminates the need for a dedicated compressor room.

The enhanced GA 5-11/GA 5-15 VSD range provides increased reliability due to the optimization of the newly developed air compressor element and the improved belt-driven drive train. By combining this technology with a new integrated dryer range, the redesigned GA 5-11/GA 5-15 VSD range guarantees excellent air quality and corrosion protection for downstream equipment, even in the most tropical environments.
