Machine Vision Cameras offer high resolution/color quality.
October 30, 2009 -
Operating at 25 fps, AT-140CL features three ½ in. progressive scan CCDs, each with 1,392 x 1,040 pixel resolution and individual pixel size of 4.65 microns2. Model AT-200CL uses three 1/1.8 in. CCDs with resolution of 1,628 x 1,236 pixels and pixel size of 4.4 microns2. Suited for machine vision, both cameras' CCDs are affixed to prism block that splits incoming light into red/green/blue color channels, with 3 sensors aligned to within ¼-pixel accuracy for maximum color precision.
JAI Delivers Higher Resolution & Color Fidelity in New 3CCD Progressive Scan Color Cameras
COPENHAGEN, DENMARK, October 26, 2009 - JAI today announced the AT-140CL and the AT-200CL, the latest generation in its industry-leading 3CCD color camera series. The new 3-by-1.4-megapixel and 3-by-2-megapixel cameras draw upon JAI's expertise in prism-block technology to provide a larger sensor format and higher resolution than previously available 3CCD RGB models.
The AT-140CL features three 1/2-inch progressive scan CCDs (Sony ICX267AL), each with a resolution of 1392 x 1040 pixels and an individual pixel size of 4.65 by 4.65 microns. The AT-200CL uses three 1/1.8-inch progressive scan CCDs (Sony ICX274AL) to provide a resolution of 1628 x 1236 pixels with an individual pixel size of 4.4 microns square.
The CCDs are affixed to a newly-developed prism block that splits the incoming light into red, green, and blue color channels. JAI's patented alignment process ensures the three sensors are aligned to within 1/4-pixel accuracy, providing pixel-precise color values suitable for machine vision analysis, measurement, and processing. This is in contrast to 3CCD cameras that utilize "pixel offset" methods to increase perceived on-screen resolution, while sacrificing the precision of the digital output.
The AT-140CL operates at 25 frames per second with full 3 x 1.4-megapixel output via a Camera Link digital interface. The AT-200CL operates at 20 frames per second with full resolution. Users can select 3 x 8-bit RGB output via a single port Camera Link base configuration, or can use the cameras' dual Camera Link connectors to output 3 x 10-bit or 3 x 12-bit RGB data via a Camera Link medium configuration. The AT-140CL and AT-200CL are the first 3CCD progressive scan cameras to offer 3 x 12-bit RGB output, enabling them to distinguish between the most subtle of color variations.
Significantly faster frame rates than the base rates can be achieved via the cameras' partial scan and vertical binning modes. Partial scanning includes four preset modes with frame rates in excess of 70 fps for 1/8 partial scan, as well as a user programmable mode with scan heights ranging from a single line to a full frame.
A variety of features are provided to optimize image quality for specific applications and lighting conditions. Included are four white balance modes (manual, one-push auto, continuous auto, and preset color temperature), three gamma settings plus a Look-Up Table (LUT), automatic shading compensation, blemish compensation, a knee function with individually adjustable RGB values, and a linear color matrix circuit enabling users to manually adjust each color channel or choose from pre-defined industry standard settings developed by HP, Microsoft, and Adobe.
With their high resolution and high color fidelity, the AT-140CL and AT-200CL are expected to expand on the popularity of previous JAI 3CCD models, which have been widely used in semiconductor production, food sorting, print inspection, flat panel quality verification, and in medical devices for patient diagnostics. Multiple trigger modes and programmable or pre-set shutter speeds faster than 40 microseconds, make the AT-140CL and AT-200CL suitable for a wide variety of machine vision applications.
JAI is also developing versions of the AT-140 and AT-200 cameras with GigE Vision interfaces. Other 3CCD color models offered by JAI include two 0.8 megapixel progressive scan cameras with either Camera Link or GigE Vision output and an interlaced scan model offering analog RGB, VBS, or Y/C (S-video) output.
