Coolant Filters suit heavy grinding, milling applications.
October 22, 2009 -
Comprised of automatic vacuum filters, SL series is intended for machine tool applications with high stock removal rates and heavily aerated oils. Design eliminates need for sump or coolant transfer pumps, using difference between pressure generated by vacuum filter and atmospheric pressure as force needed for operation. Able to be used with water- and oil-based coolants, filters feature contaminated coolant reservoir and media conveyor above low-profile vacuum chamber at floor level.
New Vacuum Filters Handle Coolant Filtering for Heavy Grinding & Milling Applications
SL SERIES OF VACUUM FILTERS FEATURE FASTER ROI FROM LOWER OPERATION COSTS, EXTENDED COOLANT LIFE & HIGHER RELIABILITY
Hudson, MA -- October 20, 2009 - Polytech Filtration Systems, Inc., an industry leading innovator of machine tool coolant filtration, launches its SL series of compact automatic vacuum filters for coolant in machine tool applications with high stock removal rates and heavily aerated oils. The new vacuum filters' patented design features a compact size, eliminates the need for expensive sump or coolant transfer pumps, and delivers differential pressures at least 30 percent greater than conventional vacuum filters. The difference between the pressure generated by a vacuum filter and atmospheric pressure provides the force that enables it to operate; greater differential allows higher flow rates or more dirt holding ability.
According to Polytech Engineering Manager Chris Ashley, "The SL Series compact automatic vacuum filters offer outstanding filtration performance and longer coolant life with both water and oil based coolants. Our new design extends the advantages of vacuum filters to a wider range of machine tool coolant filtration applications with heavy stock removal or heavily aerated coolant that conventional vacuum filters cannot handle, especially those with oil based coolants.
"Our patented design reduces cost and simplifies the coolant filtration system by eliminating the need for a transfer sump pump, while significantly increasing system reliability and performance," concluded Ashley.
Design Innovation Powers Performance & Rapid ROI
The SL Series low entry compact vacuum filter design turns typical vacuum filter architecture upside down. The contaminated coolant reservoir and media conveyor is above a low-profile vacuum chamber at floor level and filtered coolant transfers to a top-mounted clean coolant tank. Placing the clean coolant tank at the top of the filter allows much greater system design flexibility for new machine tool systems and installation retrofits.
Legacy coolant filters are often pit mounted so that coolant drains by gravity to the filter. The size of existing pits can limit filtration equipment upgrades. Polytech's SL Series low entry compact vacuum filter's smaller footprint meets the constraints of confined pits. And because the SL Series low entry compact vacuum filter design utilizes pump powered vacuum generators that evacuate both gaseous and liquid fluids, there is no longer a requirement that the coolant be completely de-aerated. This means the system's contaminated coolant reservoir is much smaller and enables the coolant entry height to be as low as nine inches above installation floor height. This eliminates the need for transfer sump pumps, reducing system costs and improving reliability.
