MLD Reference Design brings 3D imagery to mobile devices.
October 23, 2009 -
Intended for small screens on handheld devices such as portable media players, personal navigation devices, and cell phones, small-factor MLD display reference design enables presentation of 3D-like imagery without requiring special glasses. Multi-Layer Display (MLD(TM)) technology contains 2 or more layers of LCD panels placed in front of one another in one monitor without interference. Result adds real depth - Actual Depth(TM) and not perceived depth - to visual content.
PureDepth to Demonstrate Small-Factor MLD(TM) Display Reference Design for Handheld Mobile Devices at FPD International 2009
PureDepth to launch a full-fledged promotion of MLD technology for small screens for handheld devices
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Oct. 19 -- PureDepth(TM), Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: PDEP) , the creator of Multi-Layer Display (MLD(TM)) technology and a leader in new visualization experiences, announced today that it will demonstrate a reference design of its newly developed small-factor MLD display technology for handheld mobile devices at the FPD International 2009 (http://expo.nikkeibp.co.jp/fpd/) tradeshow. PureDepth will exhibit at booth #3802 at FPD International, which takes place from October 28 (Wed) through October 30 (Fri.), 2009 at Pacifico Yokohama.
The small-factor MLD display reference design was newly developed by PureDepth to optimize MLD technology for handheld mobile devices, such as portable media players (PMP), portable video players (PVP), personal navigation devices (PND), game devices and cell phones. The demonstration heralds PureDepth's determination to provide the visually stunning MLD technology seen in middle-sized MLD displays, such as casino and Pachislot games, to smaller, handheld devices, and to offer hardware and software support to companies that adopt small form-factor MLD.
"We are confident that MLD technology will bring unprecedented visual experiences to small screens and create additional market opportunities," said Yutaka Nagata, representative director of PureDepth K.K. "As Japanese companies lead the world in bringing outstanding handheld device applications to market, we believe that MLD will be an optimal tool for them when creating new unique applications. In addition, the availability of the MLD technology for handheld devices will further drive the Japanese subsidiary of PureDepth, which was established this April, helping build sales channels and establishing collaboration with hardware and software partners."
PureDepth's MLD technology contains two or more layers of LCD panels placed in front of one another in a single monitor, with patented technology used to remove interference. The result is the addition of real depth, "Actual Depth(TM)" -- not perceived depth -- to visual content, so consumers can enjoy 3-D-like imagery without wearing special glasses.
MLD technology has already been adopted by PureDepth's licensing partner, IGT , the world's largest casino game manufacturer, for several game machine models. MLD was also adopted in Japan by Abilit Corporation for its popular Pachislot game machine "Onihama Bakusou Gurentai" through PureDepth's licensing partner in Japan, Sanyo Corporation.
PureDepth's MLD technology and associated Platform software offer several benefits over conventional visual displays or conventional 3-D technology:
