Scanning and Inspection System handles small, complex parts.

October 20, 2009 - Using Spec.Check software, Pearl-700 Desktop 3D Cross-Sectional Scanning and Inspection System can digitize, measure, and qualify parts from injection molding tools. After placed in machine, ultra-thin layer of part and encased material is removed one 0.001 in. layer at a time, and high-resolution image of each newly-exposed cross-section is captured. System creates 3D Point Cloud, which can be used for inspection, failure analysis, 3D color mapping, or reverse engineering.

CGI Inspection Introduces the New Pearl-700 Desktop 3D Scanning and Inspection System for Small Complex Injection Molded Plastic Parts

CGI Inspection, an innovator in the world of 3D inspection equipment, has introduced the Pearl-700, a new desktop 3D Cross-Sectional Scanning (CSS) and inspection system. Using its Spec.Check software, the Pearl-700 is ideal for first article inspection of small and more complex parts that have internal features. The Pearl-700 is portable, easy-to-use, quiet and very affordably priced. This system can significantly reduce the time and expense usually needed to digitize, measure and qualify parts from injection molding tools.

The process begins by encasing the part in CGI's "Encase-It" material, which completely covers and fills the entire part. After the part is placed in the Pearl-700 machine, it scans the part while it runs unattended. An ultra-thin layer of the part and its encased material is removed one 0.001 inch layer at a time. A high-resolution image of each newly-exposed cross-section is accurately captured by the Pearl-700's camera. In two to three hours, it completely digitizes all the molded part's geometry, inside and out, creating a 3D Point Cloud. This 3D Point Cloud can then be used for inspection, failure analysis, 3D color mapping or reverse engineering.

About CGI Inspection

Headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, CGI has helped manufacturers, OEMs and their suppliers meet critical quality standards and product release deadlines since 1996.

CGI has developed the most technologically advanced three dimensional CSS systems in the world. The patented internal geometry technology and Spec.Check measurement software reduces the time to measure complex, multi-cavity parts by as much as 65%.

For more information, contact CGI Inspection via e-mail at service@cgiinspection.com or on the web at www.cgiinspection.com.

CGI Inspection will be exhibiting the Pearl-700 3D Scanning and Inspection System at the upcoming trade shows:

MD&M Midwest Sep 22-24, 2009 Booth # 4231

MD&M Minneapolis Oct 21-22, 2009 Booth # 1248

When it comes to First Article Inspections, Failure Analysis and Reverse Engineering, the Pearl-700 technology differs from anything you've seen before!

  • Specify tight tolerances on hidden features or critical dimensions that conventional technology can't see or measure.

  • Locate out-of-spec dimensions before going to production or during failure analysis.

  • Visually demonstrate manufacturing adherence to product design requirements using 3D color mapping.

  • Prevent field failures that result from changes in your manufacturing process, materials or worn molds.
